I've stayed in dozens of hotels over the past year, and I don't often leave reviews. However, my experience at the Grand Tourane Hotel in Nha Trang was disappointing enough to warrant sharing my thoughts. I stayed there for six nights in June 2024.Here are the issues I encountered:The electricity goes out every morning at 4am. The TV and turns turn on, the AC shuts. For this simple reason alone, I would never stay at this hotel again. They charge 100,000 VND to use the steam room, which is unusual and disappointing among the many 4 and 5-star hotels I've visited. The breakfast buffet is passable, but they frequently run out of items and don't replenish them promptly. If you're not there right at 6 am, you might struggle to find what you want.Initially, my room had a strong cigarette odor. While the management moved me to a different room without this issue, it shouldn't have occurred in the first place, especially given their hefty 1.5 million VMD cleaning fee policy for smoking in rooms. Clean the rooms properly before letting a new guest use them. The internet is fast but tends to cut in and out unexpectedly. The rooftop pool is pleasant, but accessing it involves climbing two flights of stairs, which could be challenging for guests with mobility issue, like me. Additionally, parts of the pool deck are dangerously slippery, which is concerning for both those with mobility challenges and children. There is no sun protection and the view between the hotel and the beach is blocked by a taller building. The beds are quite firm, which may not suit everyone's preferences for comfort.Overall, while the hotel has some redeeming features like a nice rooftop pool and fast internet, the issues with power, cleanliness, breakfast service, and accessibility detracted significantly from my stay and I would advise booking elsewhere. There are many better options for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI loved this hotel for its pool, however the hotel does have flaws. If I could give 4.5 stars, I would.
The good: the pool is truly one of the most remarkable pools Iāve ever swam in. There is no shade for most of the day and too much wind to install shade. However, itās a great pool to swim in. Maybe less nice to lay next to due to the wind. Bathrooms and rooms in the hotel remind me of western chain hotels like Hilton: impressive.
The bad: breakfast needs a major upgrade. I would add hash brown potatoes, pho, mango, higher quality juices & coffee. Front desk service was often unfriendly. My Agoda booking said I would receive a space-available upgrade and the front desk repeatedly told me that the only available rooms were āmultiple categories higherā. Well, the problem is that I can go online and see the hotel is fairly empty. I would have appreciated an upgrade to one of those available rooms. This is especially true after I extended my stay. I would not promise a space-available upgrade only to tell guests 1. better rooms are available and 2. you wonāt give them those rooms.
Finally, the biggest sin for this hotel is charging a security deposit. Leave a passport or 500K. Where am I, a hostel? No other hotel in Vietnam has asked this. Even worse: they make you wait until they check your room upon checkout, as if you are leaving summer camp as a child. This hotel must adopt practices that reflect the quality of its hotel. Modern hotels ask guests if they can keep a credit card on file for incidentals; they do not ask to keep passports (this is illegal in many passport-issuing countries).
With these small improvements it would be a 5 star hotel I come back to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe facililty and room were clean. The front desk staff were good and they also gave us a late checkout. The breakfast was very good as well. There were some things I did not enjoy about this hotel. The beds were the hardest we encountered in the 3 weeks in Vietnam. The location isn't beach front, there's an apartment building between the hotel and the beach (as well as a busy road). The first two times I went to the roof top pool I was followed up by staff and just felt them staring at me the entire time I was up there (third time they didn't). Speaking of the pool and upper deck area, this was a cool idea however in practice its quite horriible. The glass barrier to protect you from the wind is below the pool so there are literally ripples in the water from the wind and its not that relaxing to swim. There's also nowhere to sit, the pool takes up most of the space and in the middle are stairs. The view from the pool is of ugly apartment buildings on the side facing the ocean. Downstairs there's a nicer area with a bar but there's no shade. A floor below that is astroturf with shade but nowhere to sit. At breakfast I tried to take a cup of tea to my room and was asked for my room number and they couldn't explain why they were asking only to say we're not allowed to take food to the room (then just tell me its not allowed, why ask for my room #?), there's a giant window inside the room (with blinds thank god) so you can watch your family on the toilet. there's nowhere in the shower to put bottles or soap, the windows in the rooms dont open for fresh air. There's no windows in the breakfast buffet area if you are concerned...
