La Mer Resort is a charming, budget-friendly option in Phu Quoc with a few hits and misses depending on what kind of vacation you’re after.
Pros: • The breakfast spread is good and fresh, though the timing (7:30 to 9:30 am) feels a bit early when you’re on vacation, especially if you’re traveling with kids. Getting everyone up and ready in time can be a challenge. • The rooms are well-equipped with essentials like coffee, green tea, and water bottles. • Housekeeping is prompt and done daily. • The pool is on the smaller side but is clean and well-maintained. • It’s not a beachfront property, but the beach is just a short 300-metre walk away. The location is great if you enjoy exploring local eateries and shopping options. • The staff are a definite highlight — warm, hospitable, and very helpful. They assisted us in booking a four-island tour at a much better rate than the popular John Tours and even helped us snag last-minute tickets to the Kiss of the Sea show when Klook showed them as sold out.
Cons: • There’s no room service, lunch, or dinner offered at the hotel. So you’ll need to plan your meals — either pack something or head to the main road, which is a 5–6 minute walk away. This can feel tiring, especially after a long day of sightseeing or playing at the beach. • Bike rentals are available but rarely in stock, so you’re mostly relying on taxis or walking. • The walk to the main road is lined with massage parlours, which might not be everyone’s preference.
Overall: La Mer Resort is a solid choice if you’re looking for a clean, comfortable stay with helpful staff and don’t mind a bit of walking or planning your meals ahead. It’s ideal for those who want to be close to local life and explore on their own. Just be prepared for a bit of a logistical juggle, especially if you’re traveling with...
Read moreThis resort is a very small and cozy one. The service was good. However, there are also quite a number of things they can improve. They do change our bath towels daily, but I was also confuse that they did not for our beach towels. Isn’t it supposed to be changed together and refill the shower foam & shampoo as well? Beach towels were supposed to be changed daily. And when I asked them at the counter, they insist I have to exchange the new one with the old one i.e like a barter system. This is not good, because we were at the pool area and wanted the towels for our swim.
The room is pretty standard, but the air-conditioner provided in the room was not cold at all. The bathroom attached to the room is spacious and nice. However, water pressure from their shower head wasn’t great. Their shower foam was very very mild too. I don’t feel clean after my shower. I had to shower twice. And I still do not feel clean, somehow.
Kitchen staff are friendly. Breakfast was just OK, nothing interesting. I had better. Best part is, La Mer is very near...
Read moreExtremely bad client service and carelessness for people’s safety and health during the pandemic. Authorities in HCMC have recommended social distancing and restrict travel and this hotel considers ethical and normal to still charge in full under these conditions. They even said “don’t worry HCMC is doing well and come here and have a good holiday”. The “manager” expected to see my passport, my lease contract and a picture of my home in HCMC to analyze the case, without the slightest consideration for health and safety or travel precautions. Even after sending all these, I wasted more than a day on emails before they offered to postpone the booking under 12 months, then they changed their mind to before 6 months, only if I book within this week. Untrustworthy and horrible communication, with zero care for the customer’s needs or...
