options like grapeful dead, vegan countdown, white nice, chommie, amongst others and most of their pizzas are made with cashew ricotta that gives quite an intense interesting taste to it.
We also decided to have a go at the entrees, so here’s what we tried:
Vegan Meatballs - 3 in quantity, made with sugo, vegan parmesan and with 2 pieces of bread (that they call toast, but it actually not tasted!). Size was massive but unfortunately they seemed to be slightly burnt from the outside and once we tried it, I have to say that o wasn’t that much of a fan. I’ve had much much better vegan meat both bought from supermarkets and restaurants and I do think the price is quite high for the size and portion that is provided $18. Unfortunately it seemed better in theory than what it actually was and I cannot say that I enjoyed it throughly. I would say they are ‘not bad’ but not good either and I wouldn’t order them again.
Vegan Pizza Risin - this was their recommendation to us and it has porcini ragu, mushrooms, some crumb, garlic and the famous cashew ricotta and a large base of rocket. Personally, I think it was too much rocket and that stole the protagonism of all the other ingredients. Good value for the price ($22) as it is a 12 inch round pizza, considering it is homemade and the dough is carefully handeled and moulded - but it did not taste like a real Italian pizza in the base as it was quite chewy. I also don’t think the toppings were that well thought of and I was told that they added some nutritional yeast on top that I think it makes the whole thing seem more grainy than what it is. I would also use a different type of cheese that would make things more sticking together. I also would have liked to have an option with pesto!
Very cute place and interesting options but in comparison to the places I’ve visited in Melbourne this was far behind in terms of product achievement. Service was good and everyone was very kind. I would rate this a 3 for food and a 4 for service and that is why I’m giving them that...
Read moreWe ate here last night after reading some of the rave reviews. I'm going 5 stars because it was a great pizza, great lil shop, great atmosphere. I'll give it a 9/10, probably one of the best pizzas you could get on the coast hands down. And it ranks up there with some of the pizzas I've eaten in Italy. I got the traditional Neapolitan (Home coming Queen) Dough was nice and light, slightly stretchy, had a nice aroma, no bloating afterwards, toppings were great. If I get really picky the only thing that took the 1 point off was that there was just a lil bit of inconsistency with our pizzas on cooking time or turning times in the oven. The blistering on my pizza was a lil too burnt on one side but my wife's was great. However our garlic flatbread was cooked to perfection. Again that's being really picky, it was a busy night so I'd say that contributed to this. All in all a great place to eat some great pizza and we will definately eat here again. Knowing there Is a pizza shop that has great traditional style bases this...
Read moreLook I came down here today for the grand opening & had Franc Jns with my dad & I must say I am disappointed. All the hype about the re- open. I heard a guy saying this is Australia's best pizza, well I think he is way off. I have had some great Pizza's in my time on the Coast & Matteo's, Gemeili's, Roy's By Gemelli's has Francies covered in terms of quality.
Look the original francies would have been great. I heard the original pizza oven was taken out. I would recommend bringing back the original italian pizza oven back first.
I get the feeling the original francies is very different from the new one especially when the proper italian pizza oven was at the old francies.
Customer service was great. Very friendly staff. I had the Detroit orange stripe pizza as well as Sage against the machine.
Sage against the machine was much better then the detroit style pizza. The cheese was overpowering.
I honestly can't recommend this place with...
