Stayed at Aussie Escape Apartments for 6 nights and there were significantly less pros than cons.
Pros: The location was undeniably good, close to Southern Cross station with several tram stops nearby. There were great views from the apartment considering how all the units were on high floors. Apartment was considerably clean and basic amenities were provided.
Cons: For a room with 4 staying guests, only 2 bottles of drinking water was provided. For a 6 night stay, insufficient amenities like towels, tissues and toilet paper was provided so we had to go up and down to retrieve them from the reception desk which was empty most of the time. We had to wait until someone arrived, causing us to waste our precious time. There was also insufficient trash bags provided. It was already bad enough that we had to dispose of our own trash daily, we did not even have extra trash bags for the following use. Disposable slippers provided were of extremely bad quality. Within seconds of wear, they tear. Seemed like they were made of cheap quality materials that could not even hold together. It's unbelievable how a building with 65 storeys only has 2 lifts for all guests. The third one only served certain levels. For more than half of our stay, only one lift was working as the other was out of service. I even got trapped inside the lift before another permanent resident of the building pried the doors open! Waiting time for the lifts took at least 10 minutes each time. There was no double lock for extra security behind our apartment door which most hotel rooms have which led to an extent of uneasiness. There were also issues with the bathroom drainage. Every single time we showered, the water would leak out of the drains onto the floor outside, causing a large area of wet floor. Wifi in our apartment could not connect! All of us tried to connect using the password but it failed every single time. The staff came to fix it but did not succeed so we just had to wait. It only got fixed at night. It was frustrating.
Overall, a place with great location and views but after weighing the pros and cons, I would gladly find another alternative...
Read morePros: good location and nice views from up high. Also apartment is well sized and has a good TV, comfortable couch and a dining table.
Cons:
stiff bedding and random creaking sounds. If you’re a light sleeper like me good luck sleeping and waking up pain-free.
cockroaches. Definitely an infestation behind the sink or fridge. They’re not small either - one of them found its way into my luggage.
there is NO housekeeping. You are responsible for your own washing and cleaning. I dont mind that - but AT LEAST provide a bigger bin for us and more body wash.
front desk is 9-3pm, which is the time that most people are out and exploring. Seems awfully short for a “hotel”, we couldn’t talk to them until checkout.
shower leaks, we had to use our scarcely-provided towels to block the leak. Also it seems like the handwash dispenser had just been topped up with water, it was impossible to actually get some on your hands. Like that is so cheap?
imo the apartments are NOT up to standard for a building built only 10 years ago. Firstly, there are notices that elevators may stop working during windy conditions. Excuse me what? There’re 2 elevators for 65 floors. Luckily we weren’t caught out but if you read some other reviews, people have said they’ve been stranded because the lifts stop working. Why are the lifts affected so much by the wind? And on occasion it felt like the doors struggled to open. It looks like a crap build job, such as the state of the carpets and wall painting, and the shower mentioned above. It feels like it was build 20-30 years ago.
This is NOT a hotel, it is an extended stay bordering on air bnb. At least it was cheap. We will not...
Read moreWe stayed from Wednesday to Saturday. They allowed us to have a late check out with out charging us extra which I appreciate. Parking was $60 for our Ute, and we didn’t really take the car out as it’s very narrow the parking for the hilux. But cheap to park for the stay. Elevator was scary with the wind. Room didn’t realise was on floor 55 and I got really bad vertigo. I had to close the windows the first night. I wouldn’t rebook because of the height. The wind would be so loud in the apartment at night. I could feel it in the walls. But view was lovely and the apartment in all was good. I’ve stayed in the Q1 on the Gold Coast and I never felt being so high. It’s was odd. Bedrooms were clean. Bed needed a topper as a bit hard. Access to spare blankets and pillows. Kitchen was clean and very open. Living area was a bit squished but happy with the smart tv to stream from our apps. Bathroom Shower head was not strong enough and sink would fill with water. Air con system was very loud. Sofa bed the kids took turns on it but for an adult for comfy enough. I would have liked fresh towels each day or atleast every second so I washed/dried and used. There needs to be a bigger bin and more bin bags. But there is a Woolworths up the road and we got more stuff. I appreciated the long life milk We got two water bottles small for all 5 of us. I think the location was perfect for us as public transport was close and Uber cheap to use. In all if it wasn’t so high and solely for location I would re book. Oh and if beds got a topper. I would...
