We decided to give Hurricanes at Castle Hill a try, thinking we'd mix it up from our usual favourites at the Piazza. Big mistake. If overpriced, mediocre BBQ that tastes like it was cooked in a student share house is your thing, then sure – enjoy. But for the rest of us with functioning taste buds and a basic sense of value, best to steer clear.
From the moment we walked in, things were off. The guy with the overgrown beard (you know the one – looks like he moonlights as a lumberjack but forgot the charm) greeted us with the warmth of a broken heater in July. It honestly felt like he was the customer doing us a favour.
We ordered the meat platter hoping for a feast. What we got was a pile of bland, chewy protein, all tasting exactly the same – and not in a good way. Their "signature sauce" tasted more like it had been signed off in a rush. Even the salt gave up halfway through trying to fix it.
And for over $200? You’d at least expect proper sides. Instead, we got a sad handful of chips and a salad that looked like someone panicked and grabbed whatever was left at the bottom of a Woolies bag.
The vibe inside? Dim and dreary – not moody in a romantic sense, just plain uninviting.
And just when we thought the night couldn't get any worse, we left... only to have Beard Guy completely ignore us on the way out. No “Thanks for coming,” no “How was everything?” – just him deep in conversation, bromancing with his Brothers from Bankstown like he was at a backyard shisha night.
Stay well clear. Overpriced, underwhelming, and unforgettable for all the...
Read moreRibs, Laughs, and a Seriously Good Feed with the Mates So, we hit up Hurricane's in Castle Hill the other night, big group, hungry as. Basically, it was a "let's stuff our faces and have a laugh" kinda night. We went straight for the platters, 'cause sharing is caring, right? Plus, who wants to decide when you can just have a bit of everything? Ribs? Duh! Obviously, we got the ribs. Mountains of 'em. Sticky, sweet, fall-apart tender. Everyone was elbowing each other for the best bits. It was a proper messy, delicious situation. Steak Time: The steak platter was solid. Good cuts, cooked how we asked. No complaints there. Plus, it was fun arguing about who got the best piece. Seafood, Surprisingly Good: Honestly, we got the seafood platter as a "token healthy thing," but it was actually really good. Fresh, tasty, and a nice break from all the meat. The Vibe: It's loud, it's busy, it's perfect for a group. You don't have to worry about being too rowdy. The staff were cool, handled our chaos like pros. The place is in castle towers, so its super easy to find. Basically: Hurricane's in Castle Hill is where you go when you want a big, satisfying feed with your mates. No fuss, just good food and good times. We left full, happy, and ready for a food coma. If you're looking for a casual night out with the crew, this...
Read moreWe were a party of 6 with 5 patrons ordering a steak and the 6th ordering a capsicum for their main meal. When the steaks arrived, we were not informed of the status of the capsicum but moments later we enquired as were told it was on its way. We enquired 2 more times & were told it was on its way. By the time we were half way through our steaks we enquired again, noting that the capsicum was a main meal, we expected all main meals to be delivered at the same time, the capsicum had not arrived, the rest of our party had almost finished their main meal. We were continued to be told that the capsicum was on it's way. We were annoyed & further upset when this update was provided by the waitress as she stood serving the table next to ours - rude and embarrassing. Eventually the capsicum was brought out & the waitress explained that the first attempt was burnt & the cook had to prepare the dish a second time, hence the delay. This could have been explained much earlier. It was clear that the preparation of the capsicum was rushed as the capsicum shell itself was not cooked and as a result half of the meal was left uneaten. We were given several apologies and offered a free drink which we declined. This was a poor effort on the restaurant's behalf, greater compensation in the form of no charge for the capsicum would have...
