The construction of this supermarket has created many expectations. I live just close to it and I have followed all the phases of the works. The final result, from my personal point of view, is disappointing. The structure is dark, the architectural concept is old, and, from an organisational perspective, anti modernist. Compared to the previous (and already crumbling) supermarket, this new supermarket represents, in a certain sense, a retrograde step:
There is no longer STIB/MTB service. Self-scan is often out of service. In the morning, from 8 until 9-9.15, the brioche aisle is looking thin (it is impossible for me to buy something for breakfast before to go to the office). The selection of healthy foods is very insufficient, although consumers of these products (spelt, soya, oats, coconut, etc) are increasing. There is no a juicer. The selection of cake design is inadequate. Very often (for example on Saturday morning) water aisle is ungarnished, especially of 1 litre and 5 litres bottles. There is a new little fresh sushi exposition but there is a lack of a real fresh fish stall. Cleanliness and order leave something to be desired.
In short: a lot of space but mismanaged. Too much confusion (employees between the shelves to refill them, at all times, hamper the passage of trolleys) and incomprehensible selection and supply policies. The final result? This supermarket doesn't respond to my choices of purchasing. I often go there for last-minute purchases, like in any other "alimentation générale".
Last but not least: the exit from the parking lot is dangerous for pedestrians and cyclists; noise and traffic increased in the neighbourhood because of supermarket parking and supply trucks that amplify the effects of a lot of works everywhere in Brussels and...
Read moreReally bad experience here. I usually shop at Chazal which is infinitely better. Extremely rude staff here. We were one of the last at the self checkout, speaking English with each other and heard the staff making offensive comments about us in the assumption that we don't understand French. Particularly rude is the lady wearing black suit rather than the Delhaize uniform - presumably a manager? We were delayed at the checkout after a random control where the young male worker wrongly scanned some items twice so these were added on to the bill. We realised and asked for them to be removed which they did but grudgingly the manager saying first that we should just pay and then come back tomorrow to fix it, but then after we said no, they did it saying it was just to get us to leave. By then it was closing time and she was aggressive in asking us to pay or leave. The manager then said I had tried to pay four times with one card, whereas I had actually paid once with eco cheque and had tried once to pay with meal vouchers which was declined as I needed to insert the card. I said this and she said I was lying and said I needed to pay immediately or leave. It later failed twice again as her nicer female colleague tried to help but selected the wrong payment type. Wish I had chosen to leave as now this was also blamed on me . Awful, awful service, felt abused. Will not return. If I am treated like that again I would definitely just leave my products...
Read moreI live really close and go pretty often, but I just went this morning and felt really bad because there was a person who obviously didn’t speak french and was a bit lost, and they treated them like a thief (the person was also of color, so i found it icky)… as someone who understands french but isn’t the best speaker, I really felt bad… there seems to be a very weird ambiance recently with the theft accusations. Last time it was an older woman who seemed a little confused and forgot to scan something (i saw her struggling) and they also accused her of theft. I think the machines are confusing if you’re not used to them. Where i’m from, you just put the stuff in the automatic cashier and it sums up everything and then you just have to pay, so scanning everything one by one in a tiny space is a little confusing as you forget what you scanned and what is still to be scanned when you have 15+ articles… anyway, if the people who were treated badly read this, i’m really sorry, I felt really bad, and I hope it doesn’t...
