Last year today I was taken there by my partner as a BD gift. The whole experience was really great organized - planned and executed to perfection. We had a very pleasant (I believe) 5 course meal paired with some nice wine. The ambience was amazing, the service was impeccable, food was delicious and cooked and presented with care. I believe there's also a 7 course menu, which I'd definitely love to try someday. The only not that good thing we've experienced there was the food smell that was all over us after we left but that's something understandable, as there's an open kitchen and the chef is cooking in front of you, which is also so very nice and a reason to go there on its own. All in all, I highly recommend the place! Probably it would be better to book well in advance as it's not that big and they only have a few tables.

Had yesterday the pleasure to visit Kamo with some colleagues. We went for the sushi menu. Overall a great experience and I would recommend the place: First course were 3 traditional Japanese starters. The croquet (forgot what was inside) was my favorite of the 3. After that we got some very fresh sashimi folllowed by my favorite dish of the menu the main course meat option. Some fried pieces of meat with some nice asparagus and a very delicious sauce. After that came the sushi. We got 5 large pieces of sushi all with an other fish as topping. Last dish was some kind of rice flour pancake with mascarpone and strawberries. The desert was ok but not my favourite dish of rhe evening. Staff was very friendly... price is reasonable for a place like this. Will come back an other time with the family.

Had dinner here recently, and went for the full course menu. As a Japanese and knowing this was a Michelin star restaurant I had certain expectations dining here. The price quality ratio was quite poor - while taste was authentic and the chefs Japanese, many of the courses that were served were more akin to more casual, home-style inspired Japanese dishes as opposed to fine dining. Maybe this was the concept of the restaurant, but charging €140 per person for this is too much. The nigiri sushi were also very small and sashimi sliced very thinly. For those familiar with Japanese food this may disappoint, but if you're not then you may enjoy this (and the Michelin-star price).

This is probably my 12th (?) Japanese Michelin restaurant experience. We were here for lunch rather than dinner - so I assume the disappointment in the food quality may be due to the master chef is not the one on shift during the day. We had the Kamo sushi lunch menu (2 starters, sashimi, then sushi course comprised of a maki roll and 7 pieces of nigiri)

To put simply - this is sushi you would find at a mall or a train station.

Kamo fell very short of my expectations of a Michelin starred restaurant for several reasons:

The maki rolls were cut so unevenly that some pieces were twice the size of others. Did fifth grader cut it?

The quality of rice. The most egregious violation in my opinion. The rice was cold and hard and not properly seasoned. The rice is 50% of what makes a nirigi piece amazing and in this case it felt like you were eating left over rice from the fridge

The rice should be at the minimum room temperature, with proper vinegar and salt seasoning (or other seasoning as the chef designs). The rice itself should be Japanese sushi grade rice and the right al dente texture.

The fish itself was lackluster. Typically, in a Michelin level place - you’d find different styles of marination or fermentation of fish that brings out the beautiful flavor. This has none of that. Just a piece of unseasoned raw fish on top of rice.

To my the biggest indication that the lunch counter is amateur hour is that you needed to dip the nirigi in soy sauce. A masterfully done piece of nirigi would already have a light brush/glaze of flavor so that each bite is exactly as the chef intended.

I normally am never this harsh on restaurants but if you are awarded a Michelin star there is a baseline expectation of quality consistent with a Michelin level master sushi chef. And for lunch - Kamo’s quality was less than a casual sushi place that you’d have in New York City’s East village.

I hope the dinner service is very different because based on today I have no idea how they...

Happy...
