We showed up for all you can play pool for $22. When we got in, we were asked if we were members, and we said no. The bartender said that's okay, it doesn't matter. We got our table, ordered food and some drinks, and played for a few hours. When we went to pay the bill, it came out to way, way more, because we were charged at the regular rate. I was very confused. We asked why, and the response we got was: "Are you a member?" Already knowing the answer to that question. This was after being told when we first got our table that the membership did not matter. Now, we know it's on us for not noticing the fine print, so we paid in full and left, but on the advertising (attached photo) it says in the smallest text possible "members only." You have to squint your eyes or zoom to even be able to read it. It just feels scummy. Additionally, we have experience going to another Dooly's where we never had to pay any membership fee (we're not from Halifax) so we didn't expect anything different here. That's the main reason we didn't bother asking if there was any catch with the deal.
I wouldn't say that's our fault, but still, it was on us. Except we were told it didn't matter, which made it feel like we were scammed, and then the main reason for this poor review is because our server did not show any sympathy or offer us any help when we explained. I know they probably deal with a lot of customers complaining and such, but it's not hard to just be nice or empathetic. We have customer service experience and even if nothing could be done (i.e. buying a membership after the fact), you can still apologize for the misunderstanding or offer some sort of help or understanding. It felt like we received no customer service at all and it also felt a bit rude or condescending. We didn't know, and we tried to be polite when we were surprised by it.
We would have bought a membership had we been told when we arrived but we were told it didn't matter, and I guess we couldn't buy one at the end of the night for some reason. I also feel it's on the servers to inform customers about their deals and benefits as part of the customer service.
Otherwise, we had two bartenders, and the first girl was super nice. The $20 appetizer plate was also good. We'd give 3 stars for the food, jukebox, and quality of the pool tables, and the 1 star is for the scummy advertising, poor customer service, and slightly condescending nature of the exchange. Leaving this review as a warning for people not to do what we did...
Read moreFirst of all, this is not the complaint but the facts for letting your know people who stay there with the bias for minority group( I don't say racism because that was way too serious). We went there last week Tuesday for playing balls but it was power off suddenly after 30mins playing. Then we left but left the information in counter to contact with. Today, we showed up because we wanna play and pay the last payment as well. The girl standing in the counter recognized us, right away, ask me for the payment. We felt so terrible about this because we are regular customers. We went there a lot. That is the reason why we showed up right for the payment because we should pay it? It's not even the worst part. Then they show me the receipt for time for playing 104mins which is impossible because we arrived just 25-35mins playing but the girl said they saw us way longer than that time. Then the manager said they can check the camera if we wanna with not very positive tone. We definitely said yes. I mentioned it is not about the money but the trust. They don't trust us and trust what we say about. After we check the camera, we found there was only 30mins we playing. So the time they check for me is twice than we actually did. The most important thing is most of people have already paid this payment. Does they all pay extra twice or three times of their payment? I can't imagine this. If is not because they have bias with what I am saying to about, they will never go check the camera. No one found this. That's why I think I should say it. Even the service was not very well but you should keep the reputation and be a good business people...
Read more• I come here all the time — literally spend hours every week — but tonight was just ridiculous. • The server on shift (young white girl, slim) was straight-up rude and dismissive from the moment we sat down. • She was handing out the free-hour promo passes to everyone… except us. I even asked about it, and she just brushed it off like we didn’t exist. • I’m a Dooly’s member, played five-plus hours, and still got none of the promo time I should’ve received. • She didn’t even add our drinks or food to the table tab after we asked — which makes zero sense. • What made it worse was the attitude. Cold tone, no effort, no respect. Treated others fine but acted like we were invisible. • We still tipped, trying to be decent, but she couldn’t care less. • Every other staff member here has always been friendly — this was a one-off that totally killed the vibe. • Dooly’s management, please check the cameras and look into who was on shift tonight. She needs a serious talk because this isn’t the Dooly’s I know. • Loyal customers shouldn’t be made to feel...
