I bought 70 apples to do a candy apple order for a customer. I only needed 60 but bought 70 to be sure I had no problems with any. I asked if there was wax on them as when doing candy apples with wax you need to remove the wax or the candy will bubble and not stick to it. The 10 apples that had cracked and were not able to be used for the order I decided to dehydrate as to not waste them. They did not get the water bath to remove the wax. When I was slicing them I discovered that they were bad on the inside. I knew that I could not take the chance of using these for candy apples to present to my customer. I called the store on Sunday and was told I would be given a refund.I made the 1/2 drive to the get the refund. I went onto the store with the product and was told the “boss” would come see me. He proceeded to tell me I would not get a refund as those apples were pig food, and that he couldn’t resell them . News flash “garbage products that come back to a store should never even be a thought to be going back to the shelves.” The “boss” proceeded to tell me I didn’t know what I was doing. The wax is a good grade protective coating and not to be removed, he told me he had been in the business 30 years and knew what he was folding about and that I didn’t know what I was doing. On Friday I went to that store as it was recommended to me when I was looking for Ontario fresh apples , for apples without wax. I was looking Granny Smith but they didn’t have enough product. So I bought gala. It turns out they were a USA 🇺🇸 product with wax as per a conversation I had with someone from on the phone in the produce department who confirmed yes I would need to water bath the product. I already mentioned it was the untreated product that I cut open to discover the problem and that the product was rotten on the inside. The “boss” told me I didn’t know what I was doing in making candy apples. I didn’t bother telling him that I have been making candy apples for more years than he bragged about being in the grocery business and that I did know what I was doing. The reason I went was they claim they buy from Ontario food terminal. The first 100.00 dollars I’ve ever spent in that store, and the last. I would like to publicly say. I do know how to do candy apples. I did not ruin the product and “the boss” doesn’t know how to make candy apples (which is ok) but he doesn’t stand behind his product. I realize he doesn’t make or grow these apples, and from the outside they looked fine but when product is discovered to be rotten inside you need to stand behind it and give a refund, and feed it to the pigs. When you walk in, It looks like a nice store, but I won’t be back. I can only say I may have lost money on the candy apple job over this, but had I used these apples for the job, my customer would have been calling me today and demanding a refund on 60 candy apples that were rotten when they bit into them . I got Granny Smith somewhere else, removed the wax, and made some lovely candy apples. Beware of food practices at this store, you might just be getting food that should be feed...

Store made and is a delicious balance of meat and fennel. They are true to their craft at LaMantia country market. Smells great on the BBQ, can also be combined with pasta for a main dish. We prepared them for the BBQ, On a crusty Italian bun served with Creaser salad home made dressing and a baked potato with sour cream and fresh chives from LaMantia s super fresh produce dept. An absolute winner in our book. The "In store made Brisket Burgers" will not disappoint. we usually prepare a mix of pork and beef as our go to for BBQ burgers. Not anymore. The La Mantia "in store made Brisket Burgers" are over the top. All I say is give them a try,
We went over to La Mantias Country Market for a weekend shop. We bumped into David La Mantia and after a chat, we found that the Corned beef brisket and the Peameal bacon are in-store-made. Of course, La Mantias has a range of in-store-made products that are fresh and delicious, as we already knew and we couldn't resist. We prepared the in-store-made Corned Beef Brisket for dinner that night. it was a gift from God, the most tender, most flavorful Brisket we have consumed from any delicatessen anywhere, we love our deli meats. So this morning we prepared the in-store-made Peameal Bacon that David had informed us of, only to find the same truth as the brisket, super fresh, tasteful, tender and just the right amount of cornmeal required for a supreme breakfast on this Sunday morning. La Mantias are truly experts at their craft. The prices are right, the produce is super fresh, a large selection for...
Read moreWe drive almost 1 hour to shop at La Mantia's. We drive by 7 competing supermarkets. We enjoyed La Mantia's having a Euro name, reminding of my youth, shopping with my parents in Toronto. We were in need of Phyllo pastry, for a Greek Pastry, I called, they had stock.,they didnt know price. Upon arrival, the carts are outdoors, unattended. Every other market we shop at, has a dedicated worker to sanitize the carts, going in, and taking the cart upon departing. Not so Euro, inviting anymore. I am disabled, my wife is the driver. We are in our 60s,well dressed, adults. We enter, my wife asked for the location of the restroom to relieve herself, she was told "our washrooms are only for employees"very disappointing. Anygrocery store we have shopped at, all have washroom facilities available for their guest's. We shooppped, the phyllo pastry was close to $8.00. Exorbitant! I ask to speak to the manager, Jamie is summoned. He shows up, I am told it's hard to find employees, looking and speaking toJaime, I can.see why. Total lack of communication skills, looking dishevelled. "We don't have a washroom" I asked for the owner number, he should, would care. I was given a pamphlet with history of the store, and Dave's #. I called left a message. We depart, went up the road to Club Warehouse store, where we both used their handicap friendly washroom, and we shopped. Dave returned my call, I explained what happened, he sounded like he couldn't care Less . And at that point neither did I. You think his predecessor would have cared🤔 3stars for 1 most...
