First up, the food is amazing, quality product and lots of skill in the kitchen is obvious. Had the veg spring rolls, fresh, crispy and super tasty, mango chicken curry, lovely balance of sweet and spice, great flavour, chicken moist, and garlic naan, done in house, like with powerful but not overwhelming flavour. Service was pleasant, attentive and never overbearing. Very clean venue and nice atmosphere with a unique mix of old school diner and Indian/Chinese/Thai decor is hilariously today’s Canada in the best kind of ways, lovely music as well. Two thoughtful feedbacks; when I asked for water I was given a plastic bottle instead of tap water, I prefer to be given the option between the two, I dislike when a server assumes I’ll take bottled over tap, a quick look at the menu informed me that it was only a dollar so I’m not insinuating some sort of grift, rather the staff are so used to take out orders getting bottled water automatically they also presume the diner will want it as well. Secondly there seems to be some small leak out of an ice maker behind the counter, the staff are using take away containers to catch the water, when I was there they were kicked over 3 or 4 times negating them being there anyways, it’s a bad look, food storage items shouldn’t be used for cleaning uses, at least not in view of customers, if the machine is brand new get in their service people, it shouldn’t be leaking, if it came with the venue then put down an anti slip mat and just dry the area at the end of the night. Also one suggestion, you have a relationship with cheesecake factory, in consideration of Canadians preferences this is a good decision, I would contact them and ask them to source you a cake display a la diners of old, it would be much nicer then those little triangle pop ups and be a nice throw back to the building you’re in. You’ll sell more cake as well. I’ll be back, so glad I dropped by, best of...
Read moreSo. completely out of gas a few days ago (from a long day) and scanned around for a different option for takeout. Gave Masala Kraft a whirl based on positive feedback online.
The Feedback was accurate! Very tasty dishes that hit all the right notes in terms of taste, aroma and balance. Unlike an attempt at Indian that had opened in the area a few years ago the cooking staff at Masala Kraft clearly have experience. A perfect balance of flavour and fattiness (which is important...trust me!) and lovely tender cooked meat.
We only ordered a couple of dishes (the Mango Curry and the Rogan Josh) but they were both excellent. A warning however...don't be a hero. I opted for 'Medium' heat on the Mango Curry and despite having eaten a fair bit of Indian Cuisine it was at the high end of my (admittedly) relatively Vanilla Canadian White guy threshold! Live and Learn. Despite the heat it was delicious and I ate the whole dish for supper (and lunch the next day).
The Naan was also quite pleasant and handled being transported for take out well enough but I imagine they would be so much better in house.
Finally. Prices were on point. This is not a bargain meal but a good meal for a fair price.
Being in the old Wimpys Diner in Lindsay does make for a charming locale (and a whimsical mash-up of aesthetics) and I look forward to visiting in...
Read moreMasala Kraft is a great little Indian restaurant near downtown Lindsay. Great food, easy parking and very friendly service.
High quality well presented meal, in a cute Indian diner mash up style ambience. Will definitely return. The breads (butter naan and butter roti) were excellent and had to stop myself just filling up on those. The dal tadka was also excellent with depth of flavour and ideal texture, not too watery nor too thick. The lamb vindaloo and lamb Rogan Josh were very very similar in flavour however the vindaloo was more flavorful and true to form with no potato (vindaloo traditionally should not contain potato). Would order this again but in super hot as the hot level wasn’t as hot as our personal preference. Butter chicken was also good and creamy and sweet, we normally have mild but I ordered it medium which was perfect. My wife thought the aloo matar was nice but too sweet, I liked it. I was also big fan the chili chicken and the chili garlic momos! We enjoyed all this with an ice cold coke and cheetah beer.
A couple of asks... smaller bite size pieces of meat. The butter chicken pieces were huge, cut them a little smaller. Would like to see a tomato lamb curry like a lamb madras or even a keema lamb curry on the menu, so hope the restaurant...
