Delicious and beautifully presented dishes and amazing cocktails at restaurant Foiegwa (Instagram: @foiegwa), located in the Little Burgundy neighborhood of Montreal, Quebec.
On the menu: • Smoked octopus, fennel & walnut pesto, crème fraîche. • Truffle Parmesan beef tartare, 64° egg yolk, waffle chips. • Heart of romaine Ceasar, Parmesan crumble, bacon. • Organic salmon, brown butter root vegetables. • Filet mignon (AAA Angus), peppercorn sauce.
Cocktails: • La Madeleine: Gin Citadelle, Lillet Blanc, Dry Curaçao Pierre Ferrand, lemon, lime, Earl Gray tea, egg white. • Mariposa: Mezcal Convite Esencial, Barbancourt Pango rum, Amaro Lucano, grapefruit, lime, thyme, ACC tonic.
The appetizers were great. The salmon in the cream sauce with the mixture of root veggies was a delight. The filet mignon was perfectly medium-rare and melted in your mouth, and the peppercorn sauce was flavourful, mild and not overwhelming.
Both cocktails were great. Mariposa was especially memorable due to deliciously sweet and smoky flavor, with well balanced mixture of ingredients.
The service was very quick and friendly, and I can't wait to go back there again to try the rest of the menu items.
2021 review: Ordered delivery from Foiegwa (Instagram: @foiegwa) for brunch through CHKPLZ (@chkplz). Just an FYI; CHKPLZ has partnered up with the EVA (@eva) ride sharing company to handle their deliveries.
Used to go to this place quite often for brunch, before this indoor world party began...
On the menu: • Chicken & Waffles (Kentucky-style fried chicken, waffles, maple syrup) • Double Cheeseburger (Caramelized onions, Porto demi-glace sauce, brioche bun, fries) (I Inhaled the burger before I got to take a photo 😂)
I'm sorry, but this place is still the king of Chicken and Waffles to me. Massive waffles, baked to crunchy perfection, while retaining the perfect consistency on the inside. Equally massive, crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside pieces of chicken. Once you cover it up with the delicious maple syrup, everything disappears from your plate within minutes. I would even dare to say that the Chicken and Waffles dish is large enough to be shared by two people, provided that you're not starving.
For the cheeseburger; a perfectly grilled beef patty, which is still partially pink on the inside, covered with cheese and Porto sauce, stuffed between sweet brioche buns and with a side of caramelized onions; it's a perfectly sweet mess of a burger. Throw the fries into the mixture of all the...

My sister and I chose the following dishes:
– Beef Tartare (appetizer) ~ $21.75 – Escargot (appetizer) ~ $15.50 – Truffle Pasta (main) ~ $28.75 – Truffle Fries (sides) ~ $9.25
Escargot was truly a pleasant surprise – the delicate flavor made me remember it forever after enjoying this legendary dish from a thousand years ago. According to my research, this type of snail is a specialty on the menu of Portugal or the Catalan region in Spain. However, in France, snails have just developed and become a very popular dish. Snail shells have also been found at Volubilis, an archaeological site in Morocco. From there, people have learned about the origin of this snail species. Accordingly, snails have been on the menu in France as well as other countries since the Romans brought them as a favorite snack 2000 years ago. Snails have been a food since ancient Rome, gradually becoming popular over time and existing and developing until today. After spreading to France, they became popular, especially snail dishes originating from the Burgundy region.
On the other hand, beef tartare is not to my and my sister’s taste. It seems that my sister and I are not used to enjoying completely raw beef, but are more suitable for seafood tartares such as salmon or tuna. Anyway, this is a quite unique dish, you can try it to see if it suits your taste.
About Foiegwa’s famous handmade truffle pasta, I was impressed with the natural flavor of the mushrooms combined with the rich cooking cream to create a smooth, attractive texture. The highlight is the truffle paste – a classy spice that brings a distinctive and passionate aroma.
The price does not include 15% VAT and 25% tip. The total bill is nearly $110 for 2 people, which is too cheap for me – a delicious French restaurant, suitable for casual dining; at this price range, I believe that Foiegwa is absolutely a...
Read moreI have been to this restaurant a few times before and always enjoyed it but today was an unpleasant experience. The rest of the staff were friendly and professional but our waitress was really terrible. She just didn't seem to care about our experience at all. We were brought water from another staff member and then left sitting for about 10 minutes. It was not busy, it was the end of brunch and there were multiple empty tables in the restaurant. We had to ask if we could order our meals and the woman we asked went and told our waitress. Our waitress then looked at us from across the room and walked over to another table to say something to them and laugh together before coming over to us which felt especially arrogant when she knew we were waiting and watching her. She took our orders and then we didn't see her again, someone else brought our food and no one came to see if we were doing OK, if the food was good etc. She came over toward the end of the meal to tell us the kitchen was closing and ask if we wanted dessert and then we again were ignored for about 30 minutes. No one cleared our plates and we had to ask for a takeaway box and our bill. We were not particularly impressed with the salmon Benedict either, unfortunately. I have always enjoyed the food but this dish did not taste balanced and cohesive. Far too many flavors overpowered the dish (salty sour relish, very strong mustard hollandaise, dill cream cheese) on a piece of bread or bagel that tasted stale and was inedible. For 24 dollars it was 1 egg on a single piece of bread with some potatoes, no garnish or fruit or salad. Benedicts are usually double this portion. Really expensive and disappointing. I won't be back, I think the hype is getting...
