This review is based on 5 or 6 visits over the last 3 years or so. Sophisticated, yet cozy and unassuming, Chiado deserves 10 stars. (Google won’t let me do that so I’ll settle with 5).

Words cannot express how much of a lovely gem this place is and I’m forever thankful for my friend for introducing it to me. The culinary experience has consistently been nothing short of perfection, and so has the service - over the years I’ve become familiar with 2 of the restaurant’s star servers - Orlando, who cracks me up with his friendly jokes all the time, and Stanislav, who is sarcastic and can surprise me with a great dish when I can’t decide what to order.

Once you are comfortably seated and have started working your way through the bread selection, the server swings by to introduce the daily specials with visuals, namely a silver tray with all the fish flown in from Portugal, or occasionally off the North African coast, it gives you an idea of what you’re getting. PRO TIP FOR ORDERING: ignore the regular menu, go for something, anything, on the daily specials menu, that’s where you’ll usually find the famed skate wing (sting ray) and many fish that are not offered elsewhere. I believe that true master chefs are never satisfied preparing the same dishes and are perpetually seeking to innovate. Not that the regular menu isn’t already amazing - I’ve never had better salmon anywhere else, but I suspect the daily specials is where the chefs let loose their creative side. The daily specials menu sometimes offers more main dishes than the regular menu and I can always expect to find something new, and that is the main reason why I keep coming back. Over so many visits I feel I’m only beginning to scratch the surface of what the restaurant has to offer.

Others have given ample descriptions of the dishes, I’ll just summarily say, all the dishes showcase the chefs’ years of experience and culinary craftsmanship.

Since my first visit, I have brought most of my friends to Chiado, and all of them found the experience pleasant - delectable dishes, friendly service, elegant interior, what more could...

It was Father's Day as well as a Birthday Day. Myself and my wife as well as other family members were invited to this upscale restaurant on College St. to spend some time together ,have good time and eat good food. The atmosphere was excellent as well as the food and service. This is not an ordinary Restaurant . It is an Upscale Restaurant so the prices are accordly. Check the prices before booking. We were looked after by Juda our waiter/server ( I hope that I got his name right)who is a professional ,very pleasant and easy going person. All the time we were there he made sure that we were happy and pleased whith the service.Which we were. He gave us some good advise in regards to the wine as well as the meals. Interesting enough is that he brought a plate with the ingredients use to make our meals ( that is a first for me in so many years) . He explained everything to us making very easy for us to make our decision in regards to what we wanted to have for dinner. Employees like Juda keeps customers coming back which is good for business. I would definetely recommend this restaurant to people interested in spending good time ,eat good food and being served by professional, polite and pleasant waiters/servers. Parking is not an issue. There is a Public parking close by ( believe it or not close to a Police Station-so it is safe to walk and park to this location ). To anyone interested in going to a good restaurant, with table cloth ( not papers like some other places),have good time, good food, oustanding service from all the people involved, this is the place to go. To Chiado staff stay safe and THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.

ps

Unfortunately not all the dishes are listed on the bellow question. I would recommend sea bass . Very good and very testy. Ice cream is delicious. Comes in all kind of flavours and in a very nice...

Do not go here for winterlicious you will be treated like a second-class citizen.

Service was poor and condescending, food was mediocre and served luke warm. There is a very 'old country' idealism of the service staff.

We had a party of 3 for 9 pm. As soon we came in it was clear they were very busy.

The flustered host just presumptuously said 3 for winterlicious eh - where we replied actually can you bring both menus.

As we were hungry so we asked if an appetizer order could be placed- without even asking what I was ordering - The waiter replied ah there is a procedure for when you are ordering after the drinks and scurried off.

He came back with drinks and contemptuous asked you here for winterlicious, 3 meals? We actually were getting a mix of things and he seemed surprised. He then asked we order everything at once. So we did

He then comes back 5 minutes later and asks if the regular appetizers should be served with the winterlicious appetizers- as if they were diffferent worth?

On top of that the food came luke warm over cooked and we were never asked how the food was.

After paying 100$ a head for poor service and obviously made begrudgingly food I had to go to get my wallet from my jacket which I saw hanging on the coat check. The coat check/valet attendant was busy with a guest so I went to my jacket pocket to get my wallet. I was then accosted by the doorman/coat check/ valet that "you can't just do that, is that your jacket" - so inappropriate and rude.

Anyway this place is a gong show and stuck on a image of itself that has changed.

Highly ill advised for winterlicious or when...

The place is amazing. It’s an upscale restaurant so the prices are accordingly. We were there for Father’s Day as well as some other celebration, If someone wants to have good time, eat quality food and be nice and friendly restaurant this is the place. The waiter who looked after us was Judah ( I hope that I got his name right). He is a very professional, easy going and very polite. Very good employees keeps the business growing and thriving. Before we ordered the main courses he brought a plate with all the ingredients used to make any main course ( that was a first for me and it was a nice touch) which made our decision whip meal we wanted much easier. He also advised us which wine he recommended to go with the meals we ordered. The choice was perfect. We had a very good time at this restaurant. We also recommend this restaurant to any person or persons wants to do any events or just want to have good time. There is a public parking not very far from the restaurant. Interesting enough the parking lot is next to a Police Station so I would say is safe to walk from and to this parking lot or walk to the restaurant. To the entire team at this restaurant who made our stay very enjoyable,,THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Keep up the good work.

Intimidating vibe, but delicious food We visited wanting a nice fish meal, something we wouldn’t ordinarily have. We were quickly walked through the labyrinth of the restaurant to our seat. It felt quite dark in our corner of the restaurant. While our server was friendly and offered recommendations, he was very slow to take our order to the point where it was getting ridiculous. It was probably around 20-25 minutes before our order was taken. We weren’t expecting much after that, but the food we had was sublime. The seabass was cooked deliciously, and the cod was divine. Both came with well-considered sides, and you could tell a lot of thought had been put into the dish and presentation, which we appreciated. We opted not to stay for dessert but I’m sure it would have been great. However, the whole atmosphere of the restaurant put us off slightly. Walking through, it felt like we were strangers and had ended up somewhere we weren’t meant to - everyone looked at us as we did, and it felt like the sort of place where the owner’s friends came too and not very many other people. It’s clearly a popular place and the food speaks for itself, but I’m not sure I’d rush back as I didn’t feel the most comfortable overall.
