Times Change Women's Employment Service — Local services in Toronto

I had an orientation with Times Change today. It was definitely NOT the best experience. The woman conducting the orientation was scattered and unable to answer some of the questions that we were asking her, she basically said "I don't know" or something to that effect!! Also, I found that they advertise falsely. From the information email they sent me prior to orientation, it appeared that they actually had connections with reputable organizations, such as The University of Toronto, etc., however, at the orientation I realized that this was not the case. They do not have any direct connections/contacts with any companies. Basically Times Change Agency is a venue for workshops of various kinds; such as resume writing, Power Point, etc., and while that might be beneficial to a certain demographic, it was not helpful to me. I also think they are very misleading in the way they try to get you in to register with them. I feel that all they really want is to meet their target numbers for registration, for Government funding purposes. I was thoroughly disappointed with the whole orientation process. It was a waste of my time to have even gone there. For mature unemployed women, currently struggling to find work, but who already have a lot of work experience, knowledge of computer software, resume writing, good oral and written communication skills and other office related and soft skills tucked under their belts, then registering with Times Change is a complete waste of time. We want to talk to knowledgeable Job Developers who have genuine connections with companies, we do not need to attend anymore workshops to enhance our already acquired skills. What we really need is support to get our foot in the door of a company, by efficient Job Developers who can liase with the company on our behalf. Otherwise, we might as well just job search on our own! Why even bother registering with agencies at all?! I don't think this Agency has the capacity nor the skilled...

If I could give this "Employment Service" a negative review I would!! Very disorganized, misinformed "establishment"!! They require you to fill out a form to match you with an employment agent. Seems pretty reasonable? Wrong! What they don't tell you is that the completion of paperwork leads to an overpacked, disorganized nearly two hour orientation. Before the orientation you have to sign in at the front desk, still under the pretence you will be having a one on one meeting with an employment agent. The front desk is overcrowded and your rushed in signing even more papers, with preemptively check marked boxes agreeing to share your personal data and "consent". Then you have to sit through a long winded pointless elementary level powerpoint, with a rotation of the "employment agents" introducing themselves, but this is a distraction strategy used to deter questions about the "services" they claim to provide!! Afterwards you can leave through the crowded office, and if you're lucky you can speak to one of the employment agents about your personal questions regarding the services you just waited two hours to ask!! Be sure get in line though, as there are already multiple people in front of you and be prepared to have zero privacy asking these personal questions!! Lastly these "employees" love to deny people of services without doing any research. The agents make a strong case in defending their decisions to not help people because they'd much rather spend their hours doing less than the bare minimum and get salary pay instead!! Very sad that this agency's demographic is for vulnerable people, who could really value from said services.
