I would rate ZERO if I can! just had my hair cut, dyed, and highlighted (balayage) & Risa did my hair. My friends, family and colleagues literally ALL commented that it looked BAD. The highlights are significanty different on both sides; The left side has lots of highlights, the right side hardly any. The color combination was not what I asked for nor what she told me initially. I also wish I read some of these comments before having Risa do my hair. I feel like I wasted $178. The hair cut was OK EXCEPT the left front side is shorter than the right by at least an inch or two, very I obvious. I feel she was in a rush at the end because another client was waiting. She only quickly shampooed my hair And my hair was just bleached and all... Never have I been to a salon where conditioner was not used, especially on color/bleached hair. She did not wipe the dye off my forehead and side; They were big thick ledges so definitely obvious when you flip your hair. I didnt see it until I got home and I don't believe I walked out with all that dye on my face. I was so upset. She dried my hair quickly and I had a feeling she was going to let me walk out looking like a mop head and I was right. So I had to ask her to please quickly curl it & she did a quick whatever job. I was extremely disappointed with the whole experience. It was my first time to this salon and when I first walked in, Risa never smiled, which I thought was weird; almost like she didn't want to do my hair. Now, I don't even know how to fix my color, probably will need to spend another couple hundred just...
Read moreI’ve been going to Chura for years. I started in downtown, then followed Yuki Tango to the newly opened Gastown location. Yuki has become VERY popular and now you need to schedule anything with him weeks in advance— especially if you’re only available on weekends, like me. I desperately needed a perm, so I decided to give Chura Aletta a try. I had read some reviews that Tanya was really good with colouring and perms, so I booked it with her on a Sunday morning. She did a fanstastic job! Not only was she super kind, she checked in with me every several minutes to make sure I was okay, letting me know what she was doing and what the next steps would be. With a straightening perm, you only really know the results after you wash your hair at home though. I was a little nervous (no one other than Yuki had touched my hair for years!), but I couldn’t have been happier with the results. Chura Aletta is a little bit farther from my house, but I’m so happy that I have found this place that I can book pretty last minute (until more people find out about it, I’m sure...). I’ve also had my hair cut with a guy (Minamo?), who also did a great job. Highly...
Read moreAlways had my hair cut by Mineo in downtown where I started going to Chura and continued to see Mineo after his move to Granville. He has always been great but the last 2 cuts were horrendous. I’m thinking Covid must have gotten into him and both times he appeared moody, nonchalant and uninterested. Both jobs were rushed and he didn’t even bother to show me the result with a mirror. It looked alright from front but I was too shy to point out that it was not even. When I got home and used a mirror to look at my back, I was very disappointed that it was not only uneven, it was like a blind guy did my hair let alone looking styled. I hope he reflects on it and always make sure not to bring his unhappiness to work but to create beautiful hairstyles that he used to do. I’m willing to give him one more chance and if he does great again, I will afford him better rating. FYI, this is only handle, not my...
