Ann sucks.
Oooh so who is Ann? She is a middle-aged server at Red Star restaurant, and she deserves an award for Worst Customer Service ever!
It was the first time my friend and I went here so we needed help with food selection. Ann came over and asked if we wanted to take order. We said we wanted a few minutes to decide, and it took her 10 minutes to get back to us. I guess “a few” now has a new meaning.
We order fried rice and we wanted to substitute the pork with chicken, since my friend cannot have it. We asked her if that was possible, and she was literally LAUGHING at us. She neither said no nor yes and she only stood there and laughed silently. Woah, is customizing the order a little bit that hard? It takes that much of your time? If she could not then she could have said no, but she nodded and she kept on smirking. That’s a such an unacceptable attitude.
We also ordered duck along with the fried rice, and it didn’t take long for the duck to arrive. However, we waited for 10 minutes and we did not see the rice, so we asked a male server about it. He went all the way back to the kitchen to ask for us, which was very nice of him. Unlike Ann, she did not even bother to inform us how long that CUSTOMIZED rice would take. We did not know that substituting pork to chicken took extra 20 minutes! Well, you learn something new every day.
After 20 minutes waiting, the rice finally arrived. We had food and we saw Ann coming back and forth chit chatting with TWO TABLES NEXT TO US. She was so friendly and nice to them, and she kept asking them how the food and service was. I guess since we do not speak Chinese, we do not deserve the...
Read moreI praise the food and some great staff like Kenneth but the front desk lady is ALWAYS snobbish and rude. Probably because business is not as good as before, she starts to show fake smile for more business. However, her pretending friendly smile can’t help hide her snobbish nature - speaking really loudly about asking for high percentage of tips (more than 15%). Is that attracted to frequent customers for more business? Hope her boss can discipline her for better attitude!
Other than that, this seafood restaurant still remains its long history of good reputation on food quality as well as service except the front desk lady! Waiter even voluntarily pack doggy bags for customers (now most restaurants charges bags and boxes while having customers self pack). Reminds me of the poor experience at a so called Michelin-Star Chinese seafood restaurant at Cambie St @ W Broadway which service is awful while charging Michelin-star price. Red Star’s washroom is clean, even cleaner than another Michelin-star duck restaurant @ Cambie St. Restaurant floor and table are clean without stains. Also Red-Star offers after-meal desert with cookies. Vancourites have not seen this @ most Chinese restaurants for a long time. Thank you Red Star for your good service and great food! Thanks to all staff who offer very considerate hospitality especially Kenneth for new customers. He’s flawlessly wonderful. Forgot to take photos of the order except the after-meal desert and doggy bags. Will...
Read moreOur friends who live nearby suggested this place to meet up for dim sum. It was our first time but we liked how many parking spots they have.
They did not have a huge menu but got enough items for dim sum.
The winner was the pineapple BBQ pork bun. It came with three pieces. They were relatively small but very good. It was crispy at the top but juicy inside. They even had small chunks of 🍍 in the filling.
Radish cake is my favourite food but they didn’t have it here. Instead they had the stir-fry version with XO sauce. It was good - standard - nothing special.
Salted egg deep fried fish skin was a nice surprise. My friend highly recommended us to try this. It was very crispy but not fishy at all. The salted egg gave it an extra layer of flavour.
Shrimp dumplings. It was very standard, nothing exceptional.
Rice roll with Chinese donut. It was a bit of disappointment as it was only lukewarm and the Chinese donut was hard, not chunky and chewy.
Beef ball. Another fairly standard item.
Peer shaped deep fried pork dumplings. It took them very long time to get this to us. We had to remind them after almost an hour. It was very hot inside, so be careful when you wanted to just have a big bite at once. It was quite good but nothing extraordinary.
Overall, service was quite good. We sat there and chatted for a long time, and no one gave us pressure or anything. Reasonably...
