No one greeted me coming in (only two people in the kitchen). I had to get my own menu and seat myself in order to not feel awkward.
I ordered $27.80 worth of items for myself, including a take out item.
I was never waited on or checked on other to be asked 5 minutes into my meal if I wanted water or tea. I had to grab myself my own spoon from the back counter area (none at the table) as I wasn’t provided one with my noodles.
It should have been a zero-tip scenario but I decided to tip $1.20 by credit, to help cover transaction fees and because I saw they were working pretty hard (tables were still uncleared; and there was one other party of two at the restaurant after 8pm.
After my receipt printed, I was not asked if I needed a receipt so I pressed the button on my own to print mine. She then looked at the print out and said “only $1?”. No, mamn, $1 and twenty cents more than I should have tipped (not what I said). She gave me a look as if it required an explanation, which was SO off putting; completely shameless and disgraceful. I said “That’s correct; I basically had to serve myself”. It’s one thing to complain about your tip as if it’s an entitlement, it’s another thing to (hopefully) be aware that your service has been sub-terranean, and still complain about your tip.
The food was decent, but I won’t be taking my money here again. Being petty about tips is NEVER worth it, especially when you are the proprietor serving me and the one that should place the greatest currency on and pride in service. It costs you future patronage, which is worth much more than 5% tips (I.e. 10% because GST won’t be remitted to the CRA anyway).
I should have waited for my take-out item to come before paying because now I don’t know whether or not something untoward. I seriously considered throwing it into the compost, just in case, as I had once seen servers at Ninkazu (previously Richmond sushi) swirling chicken wings in a urinal prior to giving it to some bad customers.
But she was nice and smiled with a really nice tone before I left so I’m torn.
Lastly, I was given a branded plastic bag for my take out without being asked if I wanted it nor charged for it, which is a violation of current provincial...
Read moreMade a phone order and was told should be ready in 15 minutes. when I arrived the front lady handed me a bag of different items, i noticed that and did not take it because it was someone else's food, and she seem not understanding what does that mean (???).
During the time a young lady bring in a bunch of bubble tea, i guess she was an employee or the owner? The front lady start to chat with her about traffic and weather IN FRONT OF ME confusing about what was going on. The young lady also bring in a young male (boyfriend?) who played a quite funny role later.
After i interupted their chat with 'sorry but what is going on here?', the front lady took the food back to the kitchen and returned with 'oh they didn't do your food'. I was waiting for her to finish her next sentence, but there is NONE. I mean Madam you either give me an estimated wait time if you want to give me the food, or let me know if you could not prepare it so i can go somewhere else. But there is NOTHING.
The next conversation is like: I: sorry but are you doing it or not? She: i have to ask I: please She walked away, returned with 'about 20 minutes' I: okay let's forget it, i have to rush back to my working place before the afternoon shift She: (pointing at the kitchen)you can go and tell them, they are preparing your food
I was shocked. I could not believe what i have just heard.
And the best part is not yet coming: the male who escorted the young bubble tea female spoke to me, shown true heroism:
Male: what happened? I: sounds like they forgot my order Male: (in a condescending way) what was your order then? I repeat my order Male: ok, i will buy it Male: (talking loudly to the front lady)I will take his food, take your time no rush Male: (to me) you are free to go
???????????????????Did i accidently steped into an opera house?
I left and i knew i will not ever step inside this building again.

Read moreTotally missed out when they first opened about 3 yrs. ago?? As I have seen this place opened replacing my long time "Hong Kong Style Cantonese Noodle place" when they finally closed their doors, Bing is a reincarnation of a similar genre of food but from Northern parts of China.
With Covid, I almost don't count the years 2020 & 2021...when everything is so surreal! I remember passing by and they were closed for an extended period of time then re-opened and then only for take out orders, and now they do have dine-in service...when I had an opportunity to try them, I didn't hesitate.
Simple dining room with minimum decor, one staff on duty when we went in for a snack at around 2ish in the afternoon.
As I have checked their reviews on Yelp, I kinda know what I would order, and it did not disappoint at all, in fact, I regret not coming here sooner.
Highlights :
Noodles!! They use a thin version of noodles from Northern China, I like the texture as they still have a bite even after its been in the soup for a while, it really compliments with the various topping you can choose from the menu. I had the Pork Kidney and it was done perfectly well!!
"Bing" as I would call it Chinese Pita Bread! Freshly roasted bread with sesame on the crust, its crisp on the outside and soft & chewy on the inside, our choice was Minced Pork with Preserved Veg. perfect balance of savoury & sweetness! This is one of those items that looks simple, but to make it well, it takes skills & experience!
Overall, this is a great alternative to some of the more spicy Szechuan restaurants that is getting more and more popular now in Vancouver, so if you want something hearty and filling, "Bing & Noodle" is for sure a...
