I got a haircut with Freddy late October 2024 and loved it. My hair felt really nice and fully, and the cut was thorough, making detangling easier. I was raving about this experience to my friends, but after some of the things that have happened trying to get another appointment, I can no longer recommend this salon.
I have fine, dense, mid-back length, afro-textured hair. I decided to give this salon a try after it being recommended by a Vancouver influencer I follow with tight curls (though definitely not as tight as mine). I'd called the salon and asked if any of their stylists had experience with very tightly coiled, afro-textured hair to which they recommended me Freddy. The receptionist helped me with the booking and said they'd just book me in for more time. One thing I noticed which I would say was my only critique the time I went was that the round brushes and little detangling (?) brush they had were too small for my hair. The sections being taken were so small with not enough tension to get my hair straight that it took longer than I anticipated. Either way, got my haircut nicely, booked for 3 months later for a trim in February, but had to cancel.
I decided to book for April and was called 5 days prior and told that because of my hair texture and it taking more time, I'd have to pay an additional $90 on top of the haircut price or come with my hair blown-out/straightened i.e. I have to do half the work of the stylist myself and then pay the same price as everyone else for the cut. I was confused because it wasn't the case last time. They told me I was mis-booked even when the receptionist had said the time I called that they'd book me for more time. The time I booked in February for my next trim, no one ever called me in advance to tell me I'd be charged more. So you mis-booked me two times??
I understand that when you're inputting more time, you'd want to be paid more for the service you're providing. However, one, the cost on the website is not per hour but per service. All cuts come with a wash and blowdry for that rate. Two, when you have no tools at your disposal to actually facilitate the process, I can't help but raise an eyebrow. Where were the LARGE, sturdy paddle brushes? I own a Denman D38 paddle brush meant for blowouts which I was planning to bring to what would've been my April appointment until I received that call. What exactly did anyone think a tiny, palm-sized brush not meant for blowouts was going to do on afro-textured hair? So to me, it seems like I did my part— I told everyone there exactly what to expect and no one was adequately prepared. Now you want to charge me more because it'll take more time when you don't even have the tools that would make the process go faster.
I would've rather been told that no one there could do my hair so I could swiftly find somewhere else. This was a waste of my time. Do yourself a favour and go somewhere else if you have even a single coil...
Read moreI've been following my stylist Curtis for the past several years as they have patiently strived to find the perfect place at which to practice their magic. That place has arrived. Beau Salon is the perfect fit. I was greeted by a very well behaved golden retriever at the stylish but welcoming entry and escorted to a lounge while I waited with the warm beverage of my choice and a cookie!. This was followed by the most delicious shampoo session in their relaxing recliner massage chair (yes you get a complimentary massage!!) while gazing at the Yule log fire projected onto the screen over head. As always Curtis worked their magic at their station but this time as I left the salon I had the overwhelming sense that I'd just experienced being truly pampered and cherished.
Well done Beau Salon it was...
