Founded in 1963, Kai Ming temple (啟明寺) was originally located on Percival Street (波斯富街) and was named "Minnan Buddhist Association" (閩南居士林). In 1971, it purchased the current site and now located in No.119 Pok Fu Lam Rd (薄扶林道 ), Mount Davis (摩星嶺). And changed its name to "Kai Ming Temple", but it was still registered with the government as a non-profit limited company under the name "Minnan Buddhist Association". The temple has five floors in total. The highest floor is directly behind the temple gate, and is the Main Hall or Mahavira Hall The hall is elegant and simple, with three Tathagatas (Ratnasambhava, Amitabha, and Amoghasiddhi)(三如來) (寶生佛、阿彌陀佛與不空成就佛) enshrined in the center and the Thousand-armed (千手觀音) and Thousand-eyed Guanyin (千眼觀音) at the back of the hall. On the right side of the temple gate is the Amitabha Pagoda (無量壽塔) built in 1998. The four floors below the main hall are dormitories, a kitchen and a dining hall; nearly thirty banquets can be held during each Dharma assembly (法會). Kai Ming Temple holds morning and evening classes at 4 a.m. and 3 p.m. every day, chanting sutras (誦經) in the Minnan dialect (閩南話). The temple regularly holds ceremonies, including monthly birthday parties, Guanyin’s birthday (觀音寶誕), Buddha bathing birthday (浴佛寶誕), Amitabha’s birthday (阿彌陀佛寶誕), Yulan Festival (盂蘭節), and Thousand Buddhas Repentance (拜千佛懺). Temples also often invite great masters and other monks to preside over rituals. Kai Ming Temple was originally founded to gather believers from Fujian (閩藉信眾) to worship Buddha, but after moving to its current location, many residents from Wah Fu Village (華富村) and the Southern District have joined, most of whom are believers from Guangdong. During the ceremony of offering sacrifices to the gods on the ninth day of the first lunar month (正月初九供天法會), there were as many as four to five hundred believers participating in the ceremony, with lots of incense being offered to the Buddhist gods. To get to Kai Ming Temple from Central District: 1. Take Island Line MTR to Kennedy Town station, get off, either walk uphill on Smithfield Road, ot take Bus 37A, 90B, 40, 91, 970 and get off at HKCCCU Pok Fu Lam Cemetery stop. 2. Take Bus 90B or 37A from The Landmarkon Des Voeux Road, get off at HKCCCU Pok Fu Lam Cemetery stop. 3. Take a taxi
