What an amazing place! If you like good, tasty food with no fuss, this is the place for you.
Everything we ate was more than good except for the deep-fried squid, which was spectacular, and the burdock salad which was a completely new experience for me and one I will definitely repeat, so tasty.
From the outside, it looks a little daunting for those unable to use Chinese because almost everything you see is in Chinese. Even the name of the place is not translated. But nothing to worry about. Once you get to the table, scan the QR code and you get a Chinese/English menu. Within literally 5 minutes of ordering, the dishes started arriving.
This is definitely not the place for a romantic dinner where you gaze into each others eyes and whisper sweet words. The place was buzzing with excitement. Everyone was clearly enjoying the food and the company of their friends and family. The staff are fast but friendly and speak really good English.
I have been to similar eating places in Taiwan and this is very authentic except the food is even better. I will definitely be returning.
When I do return, I am going to pay more attention to timing. On this visit, we waited a full half hour before getting a place. I'm not usually that patient. More than 15 minutes and I move on. But my wife was insistent that it would be worth the wait and she was right. But I still don't like waiting so long. Next time, I'll get the ticket first and then do some window shopping, or check google for a less busy time (if such a thing even exists for such a gem as this).
I can't help thinking that by writing this glowing review I'm going to make the wait time even longer. But I can't help it. These guys have done an amazing job and deserve all the success...
Read moreThe restaurant is a chain that originates from Taiwan and serves Taiwanese comfort foods. The restaurant is really popular and there is a long line out the door regardless of the time of the day. My rating Is based on the following:
Food: 3 stars Environment/service: 3 stars Value: 4.5 stars Recommendations: Gua bao
We ordered the chicken rice, gua bao, fried chicken, Taiwanese sausage wrapped in glutinous rice. If you are expecting food to taste as good as your favorite spot in Taipei then you will be really disappointed. For Hong Kong the food isn’t too bad. Food here is quite inexpensive and is a good value for the price.
1️⃣ chicken rice - This dish was ok. Could use more gravy and pickled vegetables. 2️⃣ gua bao- I enjoyed this and hit all the notes I am looking for in a gua bao. 3️⃣fried chicken - a bit greasy but the chicken was tender and the seasoning had the pepper and salt taste as advertised 4️⃣ Taiwanese sausage wrapped in glutinous rice- This was a fail. The glutinous rice is supposed to serve as a bun that houses the sausage. That wasn’t done here and the ratio of sausage and rice was completely off...
Read moreI went here for dinner 2 days ago. I really really LOVE their 黑糖珍珠鮮奶, and I recommend it 100% if you are buying it for kids or don’t want to drink stuff with tea (unlike 珍珠奶茶). The drink has a amazing taste of fresh brown sugar and it has a burst of sweetness. I also really love their egg rolls, the only downside is too much saltiness. If you don’t really understand mandarin, you should come here a little bit prepared as most of the waiters speak mandarin. Their menu is also fully chinese with no english translation. Although the food is delicious and the restaurant has a taiwanese feel, the staff service was not very good. One of the staff there was impolite and rude to us as we tried to explain that the boba took too long when they have stated it would be made in less than 5 minutes, which was very disappointing. Overall, this is the best place in my opinion to buy the brown sugar fresh milk boba because of the burst of freshness and sweetness you get from the drink, but the staff really need to improve their customer...
