Dissapointed because the business added items to our tab twice on seperate occasions. The first time was for breakfast. We ordered one desayuno tipico and 2 smoothies, when I went to pay they had two tipicos on the bill. Alerted the staff and they took it off the ticket. Shrugged it off as an accident… not a big deal.
Not a week later we went back. Had a nice dinner, ordered two rounds of drinks on the happy hour menu, 4 total, and two dinner plates. When I went to pay the bill it was $63?!? This was double what we had typically been spending ordering the same items for the last month. Also they had introduced a new tip system that caught me of guard when before, all ordered food was automatically charged the 10% tip and 13% tax. Dissappinted and not looking to start anything, we paid and left. After reviewing the receipt versus what we ordered there was a 6000 colones difference outside of Tax/Tip.
Due to issues with the bill happening twice in such a short time I am not confident that the staff is looking out for the customers. I am not blaming the management or staff for taking advantage of clients or adding items to our bill, however, I do not have trust in the business anymore.
The food was great, the service friendly but something is not adding up with the billing. Very dissapointed :/ that this happened and really wish it didnt, but twice in such a short time is a red...
Read moreWe stayed in Manuel Antonio recently. I read the reviews on this place and we wanted to eat at a Soda one last time before returning home. In fact, we drove the day before to Quepos to find where this place was, so we could get to it easily the next day. What a big disappointment this was. We both had breakfasts, which were not great. I ordered the typical Costa Rican breakfast which included tortilla. My breakfast came with bread that tasted stale. I think it might have been because I was a tourist and they thought I wouldn't know any better? The worst part was when it came to pay the bill. I was using my credit card (bad mistake). They then had the machine and the guy asked me how much tip I wanted to add. I questioned that and mentioned wasn't the 10% service already the tip? He looked away and pretended he didn't know English. I then said to add another 10% tip, which he entered in for me (which was also strange, as shouldn't the customer be the one to add in the amount themselves?). I was concerned since I was paying with my card that there would be some funny business after if I didn't consent to this demand. This is the 2nd time we've experienced a tipping situation where they assume more. Most other restaurants are pretty honest about this and don't expect additional tipping. If you're a tourist, please avoid this place. We should have gone elsewhere...
Read moreI was the next in line but the waitress decided to seat another young woman before me. The woman who came in after me received her food at least ten minutes prior to my order although our orders were placed at the same time and we both ordered 1 dinner and one bottle of soda. When I asked another waiter what was taking so long he told me that they were taking extra time to make my food extra special… it ended up that the pork was so overcooked and dried, is that what was meant by « extra special « ? Not once did the waitress come and check in to see if I needed anything. I was completely ignored. The place is very OVERPRICED which explains why only tourists can be found at this restaurant which is not a good sign. If the food was that great, the restaurant would also have local Costaricain patrons. Since I was ignored and made to wait unnecessarily long for dried pork (Chifrijo) I wont be back. This place is overrated and the restaurant is terribly warm. If you are single, they will NOT allow you to sit at a table, you’ll be sent to the bar which faces directly onto the sidewalk. You are less than 1 foot away from pedestrians walking on the sidewalk, including Venezuelans who came around twice to beg for money at our dinner counter. The service was TERRIBLE!! À éviter, le service à la clientèle...
