Wood & Steak — Local services in Prague

Was looking forward to dining here for a while, perfect interrior and super friendly and attentive staff/service. Slight disappointment with 2 of the dishes.

1. steak tartare was perfect
2. bonemarrow bones were a bit too light on bone marrow, but still good, hardly able to scrape enough onto 2 of 4 breads however, still delicious, but I guess I understand it is a starter, possibly just offer 2-3 breads instead of setting high expectations with 4 :(, not many people like bonemarrow but when I order it, at least I personally am always looking forward to it and was a bit underwhelmed, but as said - still delicious
3. Tomahawk was sadly the a bit of of a disappointment of the evening. 0 fat, unsure if trimmed on purpose/accident or just unlucky with the cut. The char on the soft side edges almost dry/crispy, BUT the inside rest of the steak still prepared as it should be for a medium rare, just the taste was not present when compared to what I'd expect from a tomahawk in means of dry aging and flavor. A bit more of marberling would have been nice, none the less the meat was good and by no means as bad as my description possibly sounds but I had to dip in the sauces which I'd normally not do with meat of this type/quality/price. The chimichuri sauce was DOPE however.

I'd say maybe offer more than 4 whiskies, outside the Nikka from the barrel and the other 3 of which 2 are basics (Jack, Jameson, Jameson Black Barrel) it would be nice to be able to pair something smoky with the meat such a scotch (even something from the more basic ones, ie. Ardbev 10yo, Laphroaig 10yo, Talisker 10yo etc.). Red wine recommendation was on point.

For me the service and atmosphere made up for the steak (which again, was still not bad), while I rated the food 3 out of 5, I'd say it would be more of a 3,5 and I will definitely give this place another chance, just possibly looking closer at the cut when picking (to be fair we just ordered the biggest tomahawk withiut really examining it closely), overall a solid 4 out of 5,...

During my recent visit to Prague, I had the pleasure of dining at Wood & Steck, a restaurant that truly exceeded my expectations. From the moment I stepped inside, I was welcomed by the warm and inviting atmosphere, complemented by a team of incredibly friendly and attentive staff.

I came in to try this spot and as much as I wanted to like it like most restaurants I’ve been to in Prague, I can’t give both an honest and positive review. I started by ordering some water which I was charged $8 for, and ordered a 300 gram filet which I was charged $37 for, this would be ok as filet mignon is expensive, but at that price point it should be cooked perfectly. I ordered it medium rare, and it came out cold and raw, not like rare cool but cold. The only thing that is preventing me from giving a one star is that the service was great and took back the steak and had it cooked some more. Unfortunately, that dries out the steak and render ordering a filet mignon useless.
