Outdoor Faroe Islands — Local services in Tórshavn

We did the tour to Mykines with Outdoor today and it exceeded all our expectations! :-) On the ferry ride to Mykines you pass Drangarnir and Tindhólmur and get to see them from very close. From Mykines port we were picked up from our local guide Guðmundur and were warmly welcomed in „Mykinesstova“ where we enjoyed a nice cup of coffee with homemade cookies. „Mykinesstova“ is a traditional faroese house and is owned for generations by Guðmundurs family. Nowadays, it is a little café, freshly renovated and lovingly furnished. You feel like home. :-) When heading out of the village we also had the chance to watch the shearing of faroese sheeps who live on Mykines. Afterwards, Guðmundur presented us the best puffin spots on the island. He hiked with us off the beaten track which is only allowed for local people and so we could happily avoid the crowds in the main puffin colony. In a short lunch break we enjoyed the lovingly prepared lunch package with traditional faroese sheep ham. On the way, Guðmundur told us a lot about the birdlife on Mykines, the history and the life of faroese people nowadays and in ancient times. After thousands and thousands of puffin sightings we headed back to the lovely small village where we enjoyed homemade fish soup and freshly baked cake in „Mykinesstova“. To top it all, before the ferry brought us back to Vágar, Guðmundur showed us around in the village and we got to see some traditional faroese houses even from the inside. Guðmundur is a experienced local guide and really gave his all to make this trip outstanding and unforgettable for us! Guðmundur is a fantastic local guide. We were lucky enough to have a day with him for a visit to one of the islands to see the puffins and more. We were thrilled to have someone give us all the local knowledge and interesting facts about the island and wildlife. Additionally, Guðmundur had arranged some beautiful local food for the day and happily organised all the travel arrangements for us!
