This is indeed the only Japanese restaurant on the island, but unfortunately, it suffers from bad feng shui. During dinner time, the entire dining area is blasted by the setting sun, making it unbearably bright! Photos of the dishes come out heavily backlit and unappealing. What’s worse, the staff show zero awareness of service—they don’t even think to draw the curtains. Service is poor! Diners are forced to wear sunglasses 🕶️ during dinner, looking like a mafia gathering from afar! 🍣Sashimi Platter This is the restaurant’s signature dish and also the most ordered by diners. If you want to taste the freshest local seafood, this is the right choice. The 24-piece 335 DKK platter includes salmon, halibut, Norway lobster, scallops, salmon-daikon rolls, and ponzu soya. The salmon, halibut, and Norway lobster are all local or regionally sourced specialties—undeniably fresh. Contrary to what some reviewers say, the Norway lobster was not overly greasy, but rather retained its original sweet and delicate flavor. (Of course, taste can be subjective.) The scallops could use better handling—some pieces still had tiny black specks or dust on them. The salmon roe was unseasoned, so it carried a slight fishy or bitter taste toward the end. (People with less sensitive tastebuds might not notice.) In authentic Japanese cuisine, salmon roe is usually marinated beforehand to eliminate such unpleasant flavors. A highlight worth mentioning is the daikon roll. Despite the name, it’s not a veggie roll—it’s filled with salmon, chopped cucumber 🥒 and avocado 🥑. Clearly, the chef has a creative take on sushi. This type of roll isn’t common in traditional Japanese restaurants—it’s a modern twist. The thinly sliced daikon, in place of seaweed, gives it a smoother texture, and the cucumber adds freshness while the avocado brings richness—an unexpectedly well-balanced combination. An American diner at the next table took one bite and the roll fell apart, ingredients spilling everywhere. He had to re-wrap it with his hands before stuffing it back into his mouth. Clearly, this diner didn’t understand the chef’s intention! The ponzu soya is more like vinegar than soya sauce. Its sourness overwhelms its saltiness. While traditional Japanese sashimi is paired with soya sauce, the lighter flavor of local cold-water seafood might be overpowered by classic soya, so ponzu helps enhance the natural sweetness of the fish and shellfish. That said, diners accustomed to traditional Japanese flavors may still prefer standard soya sauce, which is available at every table for DIY mixing. 🍱Sushi Platter This is mainly for filling you up, in case the sashimi platter isn’t enough. 🍹The restaurant doesn’t offer any house-made drinks—everything is bottled. One unique option is the elderflower soda, which is rare in Asia. It has a herbal note, mixed with pear 🍐, honey, and citrus flavors, creating a refreshingly crisp profile. One major downside: the chairs have no noise-reduction pads, so every time someone moves a chair, there’s a sharp, screeching noise that harms your hearing and adds to the already noisy environment. But the most unbearable thing is still the sunlight blasting in during sunset—eating dinner under a spotlight is just frustrating. And finally, about reservations—many reviews emphasize this. You can book directly on the restaurant’s website, and it’s not difficult. However, reservations cannot be made via Google Reviews, which is not very international-friendly.

We had a delicious dinner at etika sushi in Torshavn. The portions were excellent and the fish was very fresh. It was the closest I've had to eating the sushi I ate in Japan. This restaurant was also the only sushi place recommended to us by locals. I ordered the salmon and eel nigiri, salmon sashimi, smoked salmon maki, as well as a lamb meat stick, chicken meat stick, and chicken dumplings--all were delicious aside from the chicken dumplings which I would not order again. One thing I will note is that the sushi is quite expensive, so this is definitely a place to go if you want to splurge but not if you're hoping to save some money. We booked a table ahead online and service was prompt at first. Oddly, the staff brought all of our food out at once rather than pacing it out, so our table was quickly filled with oversized plates and nowhere to put them. It made for a slightly uncomfortable dining experience as our table was small. By the time we were finished our meal the restaurant was fully booked so it took a while for someone to come by and clear away our plates or to get our bill. It also took some time to pay when we were ready to leave. We received our bills and they said they would bring the machine to the table so we could pay. After waiting 10 minutes we went to the cash to pay instead. Aside from the hiccups in service, I would still recommend this restaurant to anyone hoping to get delicious, fresh sushi in Torshavn.

Simply said, the food was incredible, some of the freshest sushi we've had aside from Tokyo, but the service was terrible. It is a small restaurant, maybe 8 tables total, 4 of them had customers when we were there. Everyone seemed to be waiting quite a long time for someone to come over. We ordered one of the package deals, and asked if the chef would be willing to make one small modification of adding cream cheese to one of the rolls, she proceeded to say "well i've never heard of that"... Our food was served and she never came back, not even to check and see if we needed something. All of the tables were about done with their meals and waiting for the check to be dropped off. Turns out you go up to the front to pay, which we had no clue. My husband had to get up to go find our waitress and realized then. I want to rate a 5 for food, but 1 for service. The food was so good that I felt like I couldn't give them a super low score.

Worst customer service experience in a sushi restaurant through all sushi restaurants around the world i been to. First i hope this message reach the owner him or herself to know whats going on around their business… This is my 2nd time i been to that place and first time was with my faroese wife and we had a terrible customer service back in summer 2019 when everything was so slow and our order came missing and it took us even a while to explain the situation to them and they still didn’t understand even though my wife speaks fluent faroese

Second time was today 30th of december 2021 we felt to drop in for a walk in without reservation but here what was funny there were tables available yet the lady by the counter told us we cant sit on any of the available tables because they are reserved in an hour from now and i told her thats fine we could eat fast yet she said but food takes about an hour to be done ( im like whaaat ? The busiest sushi restaurants in manhattan dont even take half that time ) Anyways i asked if we could sit by the bar as it was empty but she said we cant order from the menu if we sit by the bar only to go boxes and i was like “ok its time to get outta here those people dont want us” its so obvious they are either trying to drive the place out of business or they deliberately wanna give the place a bad reputation… long story short here is my 5 cents about that place its thr only sushi place all over the faroeislands so they are not standing any challenges from other restaurants and thats actually whats making them act or work that way… their sushi is fresh and high quality but u walk to a restaurant u expect a service...

Really overrated place and food.

Went here in August (2019) and had fairly high expectations upon reading all the positive reviews of the restaurant. It is located right in the centre of Torshavn and very conveniently accessible. Very nicely decorated interior and table set up, however that's also already where the pleasantries end. The staff was extremely unfriendly, very short spoken and unattentive. They mixed up two of our orders and brought different dishes than we had ordered. Didn't come to check in whether we had any further wishes at any point of the evening and generally seemed wholly uninterested in making our stay pleasant.

As for the food, the experience was underwhelming to say the least. My partner and I are generally not picky eaters, but there really wasn't much positive to say about the food here. The miso soup we ordered arrived only luke warm. One of the fried starters we ordered was completely soaked in soy sauce to the point where we couldn't taste the actual fish anymore. The sushi rolls were extremely oversized and very loosely rolled, so that it was impossible to eat the sushi without it falling apart between your chopsticks. It made for a very unpleasant eating experience. Additionally, the sushi was heavily covered in all sorts of decorative greens and sauces that weren't advertised in the menu. While visually appealing, it really took away from the taste of the sushi and made it wholly unenjoyable. The eel in one of the rolls we ordered was riddled with fishbones that made it unedible.

Really don't know how this place got all these positive reviews, we sadly would not recommend going...
