The evening was nothing short of flawless. While on our honeymoon, my wife and I had the pleasure of visiting Gentlemen 1919, courtesy of a reservation arranged through Cigars and Memories. It’s remarkable how something as simple as social media, so often impersonal, managed to create a genuine connection and bring us together across an ocean.
From the moment we stepped inside, the experience was unlike any speakeasy or cigar lounge we had ever known. A gentleman from behind the bar approached and, with a grace that spoke volumes, offered to take our coats. He reached first for mine, but as my wife began to remove hers, he paused and said, ‘I will start with madame.’ In that instant, we knew we had discovered something truly special.
The attention to detail was impeccable. Even in our small gathering, they never let a moment pass without ensuring our comfort. Having just come from dinner, I was parched, and our waters were refilled consistently. Yet it wasn’t just the refilling—it was the understanding that larger glasses might have disrupted the delicate geometry of the table, and indeed, the ambiance of the evening.
I cannot praise this establishment enough—perfectly crafted drinks, an exceptional selection of fine cigars, and staff who embody the art of hospitality. The highest compliment I can offer? I intend to make Gentlemen 1919 both the first and last stop on my next trip to Paris. And somewhere in between, to sustain my flâneur’s wandering through the city, I will return once more. Three visits to Gentlemen 1919 in one trip feels like a tradition...
Read moreWhat can I say? We had 36 hours in Paris. Fresh out of the bush in Malawi and off of an 11 hour flight, I told my brother in law and our daughters that I wanted to find this place. We showed up in shorts, T-shirts and sandals. We were abruptly stopped at the door and asked if we had a reservation. We did not. We were however, able to sit outside. We were escorted to the humidor and picked out a couple Bolivar's which we smoked outside while sipping on literally, the best old fashioned you could ask for. After chatting for quite a while with the hosts, I ended up with a beard trim. We were then informed of some openings the following day. We quickly accepted a spot. Upon returning, we ordered a charcuterie board and two shots of Octomore. We had the most awesome, memorable experience in Paris we could ask for in our short stay. These guys are awesome and we would definitely fire off another appointment if we are ever in Paris again! Thanks for a great time. You guys...
Read moreLovely staff, underwhelming offering.
I usually go to Grizzly Barber and was in the area so gave it a shot. Friendly staff, and I like the small space, it looks fantastic. I had booked a shampoo, haircut, beard trim and facial online. (Facial was a treat given I am getting married tomorrow)
When I arrived, I was given only a haircut and beard trim. Since my hair is thick, I usually go for a shampoo prior to cut. The alternative is to spray the hell out of it with a cold spray bottle, which is not pleasant. Well, got the spray bottle treatment today.
Beard trim is decent, but Grizzly offers warm and cold cloths on the face and straight razor for the same price.
In any case, the service offering was average. Overall, underwhelming for me. I left wondering where to find a face treatment and a good whisky in Paris. The only offering today was...
