Sun City — Local services in Paris

The idea of this venue is much more exciting than the reality. The reality being a dark, dirty and unsanitary excuse for a Sauna. I visited this venue on Sunday and had Gastroenteritis by Tuesday.

When entering the steam room area on the main floor, you pass through heavy clear plastic panels reminiscent of those in a meat factory, and enter into a dark shower room. When entering the room the smell of feces was unbelievable and inescapable, it was clear that someone has emptied their bowels all over the room and it wasn't being cleaned up, the smell was present the whole night but it's was too dark to actually see ANYTHING or know whether you were standing in it or touching it.

The addition of a full pool is great, but unfortunately it's cold, the jacuzzi to the left is pretty warm, but the one on the far right was cold for the entire night.

Upstairs you'll find a labyrinth of rooms, some lockable, some not. Each pitch black so if you intend on actually seeing who you're taking in and enjoying some physical attraction, don't count on it. There are one or two that are better lit but not all. There's nowhere to hang your towel and no sanitation stations to clean up after either so don't be surprised that you're rolling around in someone else's mess if you go in. If that's your thing, great, but if you'd rather have some sanitation control, there are better bathhouses in Europe. Heck, Paris.

You'll find the sauna up here too amongst the labyrinth of rooms which are split in two by an odd landing area and TV showing films from the 90s and seemed to have guys passed out, probably using it as a cheap sleeping space seeing as they were fully clothed and likely homeless. One you find the elusive Sauna, it is a perfect way to actually get some R&R and observe the passers by, who seek to circle around like bees in a hive. Although note that when we visited, part of the upper corner bench was broken and had a makeshift MDF covering as a seating solution covering the heating unit.

Unfortunately it's apparent from start to finish that there's zero care for sanitation in this bathhouse at all. It's dirty, dark and uncontrolled. They say that it's the people you meet here that truly make the impact, and sure if that's the case, we met an incredible couple and if we based the review on that alone it would be 10/10, but thanks to the company that housed us for those few hours I'm reviewing the bathhouse itself.

The entire building needs to be cleaned. The paint peeling from the ceiling in the feceis ridden shower room, the wooden door hanging off its hinges like an old shed door marking an excuse for a seated toilet. It's all beyond unacceptable. I've visited my fair share of bathhouses in Europe and this is the worst, it's miles away from the fun experience you expect, it's not a relaxed sauna and steam with the occasional flash and fun, it's dark, it's unsanitary and unless more people speak out, it will carry on without any adjustments. This place needs to be cleaned, regularly, and the staff need to give a damn about the building. I didn't see one person cleaning the building at any stage of...

An absolute disappointment. The sauna is of very poor quality, and it is embarrassing that the owners are satisfied with presenting such a dirty and poorly maintained establishment to its clientele. Just so you know: a) The entrance is on an extremely busy thoroughfare, several rainbow flags hang above the entrance, and the bag check is done on the sidewalk in front of the building…not in the main lobby? Really??! b) The layout of the sauna makes little sense; odd spiral staircases lead to random toilets, urinals, an unnecessary gym, a cinema (where four people watch a gay indie movie/take naps)…no signage to say where to go…no imagination or effort put into creating a memorable experience for the clientele. C) The showers don’t make any sense…The space is small and dirty. And why so few shower stalls for such a huge place? Most of the soap dispensers had no soap…by 6:30 p.m. d) The free drink that you get upon entry is a non-alcoholic beverage that is served in a plastic cup. The bar is a joke. e) The dry sauna on the second floor was broken. No sign or anything to say when it would be back in operation. f) The worst part of the sauna is the maze/ top floor. There are several open spaces that don’t provide anything of use. And most of the rooms smell terrible… g) The worst part of the establishment is that it brings out the worst in people and does nothing to curb their behavior. Some men were wearing their underwear, swim trunks, their own shoes, baseball hats (?) inside. Other men were just spitting anywhere they wanted…I couldn’t believe it. And the harsh, crude, and egocentric spirit of the city dwellers is intensified within the sauna. Also, why are there people speed walking through the sauna as if they’re on a busy street, trying to catch the next metro? What’s the rush?...

Ayant une expérience significative des établissements saunas gay à l’échelle internationale, il m’apparaît pertinent d’émettre un avis structuré, objectif et fondé sur des observations répétées, tenant compte à la fois des éléments positifs et des dysfonctionnements notables observés sur place. Le tarif d’entrée, fixé à 22 euros, peut être considéré comme raisonnablement proportionné au regard des infrastructures mises à disposition, notamment une piscine et des jacuzzis d’un niveau d’entretien globalement satisfaisant. À noter également la possibilité d’acquérir deux consommations non alcoolisées à l’aide de jetons inclus dans le tarif. Et deux draps de bain à l’entrée me semblent aussi raisonnable et suffisant… En revanche, une odeur persistante de type alimentaire (curry et pesto) a été relevée dans des zones où cela paraît incongru (salle à l’étage, couloirs), ce qui pose question en termes d’hygiène olfactive et de ventilation. Le personnel d’accueil à l’entrée (les réceptionnistes) se distingue par son amabilité et sa courtoisie, notamment lors de la vérification des sacs, qui se fait dans le respect des usagers. Si non, l’équipe nettoie régulièrement les capotes utilisées, les mouchoirs jetés dans les cabines et aussi les draps de bains. Ils sont très respectueux et à disposition… Cependant, des faits préoccupants ont été constatés de manière récurrente au niveau du service bar. Durant deux soirées consécutives, « un comportement particulièrement inapproprié de la part d’un BARMAN » (qui est chauve) a été observé : « ton agressif », « hausse de voix injustifiée », « attitude condescendante » et « ciblage » manifeste de certains clients. « Ces agissements, corroborés par des témoignages d’autres usagers, laissent entrevoir une discrimination indirecte à l’encontre des personnes ne maîtrisant pas le français ou s’exprimant avec un accent, ce qui contrevient aux principes d’égalité de traitement et de non-discrimination dans l’accès aux services ouverts au public ». Je n’ai jamais été confronté à une telle attitude dans un autre établissement (sauna, bar, bistrot, darkroom, etc.) en Europe. Son regard insistant, le ton agressif de sa voix et ses mouvements (agitation) m’ont semblé particulièrement menaçants. Bien qu’une interdiction d’utilisation des téléphones portables en dehors du vestiaire soit affichée, celle-ci souffre manifestement d’un défaut d’application et de contrôle : plusieurs individus ont été observés avec leur téléphone dans les étages, certains prenant même des photographies au mépris des règles en vigueur. Ce manquement soulève des interrogations légitimes en matière de respect de la vie privée et de sécurité des clients. Par ailleurs, la présence d’une caméra de surveillance dans le couloir du premier étage (j’ai pensé que c’était la lumière mais plusieurs clients m’ont confirmé que c’était une caméra) et à proximité du bar (à l’entre du jakuzi et piscine) a été notée (ça m’a pas dérangé personnellement, juste une info pour les personnes sensibles au sujet). Si certains aspects de l’établissement peuvent être salués (tarification, infrastructures aquatiques, accueil à l’entrée), d’importantes réserves doivent être émises quant à la qualité du service client au bar, au respect effectif du règlement intérieur, et à la conformité des dispositifs de surveillance avec le droit applicable. Une vigilance accrue de la direction sur ces points apparaît impérative pour garantir une expérience sécurisée, respectueuse et inclusive pour l’ensemble des usagers. DarkRoom ou GloryHole commun est plutôt sympa. L’inconvénient, il y a pas mal de familiarité entre habitués, « ce qui peut mettre les nouveaux ou les touristes un peu à l’écart » (ce n’était pas dérangeant pour moi). J’y suis allé avec des potes que j’avais déjà rencontrés via l’app pendant mes séjours précédents et celui-ci à Paris. Pour ceux qui ont des attentes élevées ou moyennes, le sauna peut ne pas être la réponse adéquate, mais il peut être la bonne adresse pour ceux qui ont des attentes inférieures...
