Nestled alongside the main cathedral at the crossroads of the historic center and the Sassi of Matera, this historic venue provides an incredible backdrop for events that blend culture, art, and community engagement. From the moment we began planning for the UMANIAMO Festival, we were captivated by the stunning architecture and the rich history of Le Monacelle. The venue’s ancient walls and breathtaking view of the Murgia and ancient cave dwellings across the ravine create a serene and reflective atmosphere that is perfect for fostering creativity and connection. Stefano Siggillino and the entire team at Le Monacelle went above and beyond to accommodate our needs, ensuring that every aspect of our festival ran smoothly. Their dedication and passion for preserving Matera's cultural heritage are evident in everything they do. They provided excellent recommendations and logistical support and were partners in every sense of the word on making the UMANIAMO Festival possible. Just when we needed something Stefano would appear, as if out of nowhere through some secret passageway ready to assist. The highlight of our event was the groundbreaking heart coherence concert, a world-first experience made possible through a collaboration with local artists and data scientists and international scientists. Le Monacelle’s historic significance and unique ambiance added an extra layer of depth and meaning to this transformative event. Le Monacelle is not just a venue; it's a place where history, culture, and innovation come together to create unforgettable experiences. Whether you are hosting an exhibition, concert, or an intimate gathering, Le Monacelle offers an unparalleled experience. It’s also a perfect place for corporate retreats and workshops - because of its rich history and breathtaking views participants are immediately called to be present and focused because it is so far removed from the “ordinary.” During one of our planning trips there was a medical group meeting at Le Monacelle, and as an observer, I saw something that I haven’t seen that often in these types of meetings - focus, purpose, and an almost transcendent collaboration. It’s as if the place really “alters” the outcomes of any event in a profound way. At UMANIAMO we have a deep belief in symbolism and for me the historical significance of Le Monacelle is profoundly tied to the story of Castello Tramontano and Count Tramontano. In the early 1500s, the Count sought to impose tyranny on the people of Matera by building a castle funded through oppressive taxes and engaging in acts of terror. However, the resilient spirit of the townspeople prevailed. On December 29, 1514, they rose against the Count, demonstrating the strength of humanity in the face of tyranny. This story of resistance and redemption is symbolically echoed in the unfinished Castle Tramontano, standing as a testament to the courage and unity of the Materan people. Hosting our event at Le Monacelle, on the very street in which the people rose (the Street of Redemption), added profound meaning to our mission of fostering unity, peace, and the universal language of humanity. We are deeply grateful to the staff and management of Le Monacelle for their exceptional hospitality and support. Stupendo e fantastico complesso ricettivo. Un tuffo nella Matera autentica. Praticamente attaccato e collegato alle mura della cattedrale. Domina dalla sua panoramica posizione tutti i Sassi di Matera e la gola del torrente Gravina. Un soggiorno in questo affascinante luogo pieno di storia è una esperienza da non perdere. L’ospitalità è calorosa e professionale. Gli alloggi si rincorrono nel labirinto dei vari edifici e piani che compongono questo hotel. Ma c’è anche la parte dell’ostello con i cameroni comodi e sapientemente ricavati. Il tutto intervallato da corridoi, scale, sale di lettura, sale per conferenze, sale riunioni. Tra queste antiche mure si leggono gli utilizzi fatti nei vari secoli. Perché questa struttura trasuda storia, leggende, riti, tradizioni, opere d’arte. Vi è annessa anche una splendida chiesa, riccamente ornata, con altari, stucchi, statue, dipinti ed affreschi pregevoli. Completa la chiesa anche il ballatoio completamente racchiuso e protetto dalla grata, da cui le monache potevano assistere alla messa. Spettacolari sono le varie terrazze che si affacciano su panorami mozzafiato sopra i tetti dei sassi o direttamente sopra il precipizio della valle. Uno splendido cortile interno oggi spazio vuoto all’aperto sotto le stelle, ha preso il posto della vecchia chiesa la cui pianta a tre navate orientate est-ovest sono ancora perfettamente leggibili. Insomma già la sola visita e soggiorno presso le Monacelle potrebbe di per se rappresentare una valida metà; ma se ci aggiungete la posizione centralissima adiacente alla cattedrale di Matera, in mezzo al centro storico della città patrimonio dell’umanità; be avrete fatto un...

La Fondazione Artistica Le Monacelle è un autentico gioiello incastonato in una struttura storica che lascia senza fiato. L'intera struttura è piena di, autentici capolavori perfettamente conservati e ricchi di dettagli affascinanti che raccontano secoli di storia. Ognuna di essi è un viaggio nel passato, con affreschi e opere d'arte che catturano l'immaginazione e l'anima dei visitatori. Uno degli elementi che più mi ha emozionato della fondazione sono le terrazze panoramiche, dalle quali si gode di una vista mozzafiato sulla città e sulla gravina. Questi spazi all'aperto sono il luogo ideale per una pausa riflessiva, dove l'arte e la natura si fondono in un'esperienza sensoriale unica. Ho scattato foto indimenticabili! Il personale della Fondazione Artistica Santa Maria merita una menzione speciale. La loro preparazione e gentilezza sono straordinarie. Lo staff è accogliente e pronto a condividere la propria conoscenza e passione per l'arte con i visitatori. Grazie alla loro disponibilità e competenza, la visita si trasforma in un’esperienza arricchente e piacevole.
