There is this Pompeii train station and another Pompeii train station. You want this train station to go to the Pompeii ruins. From the Naples cruise port, we caught a bus (be careful there are two buses and one takes you only to the airport) to the Napoli Centrale train station we caught the Napoli Garibaldi train (located downstairs) around 8:26 am which was two stops plus one more stop where the doors did not open from Pompeii Scavi Villa Dei Misteri. It should have taken about 30 minutes but the express train was over 20 minutes late, so it took closer to an hour.
This tiny train station does have bathrooms, costing 1 Euro with no toilet seats. There was a refrigerator where you can get sodas and a place to buy food as well. There are also places to buy tickets, but it would be better if you walk across the street to buy Pompeii tickets at the Pompeii entrance gate - Scavi di Pompei Porta Marina Entrance. Once you enter the gate with your ticket, there are free bathrooms with toilet seats inside.
We had pre-booked a tour with Walks: Complete Pompeii Experience: Skip the Line Tour & Archaeologist Guide (3 hours with about 15 person group with audio devices) which I totally recommend and we were to meet at the Porta Marina Entrance gate which is 2 minutes or across the street and to the right - super easy.
Trains run approximately every half hour, and we caught the 2:50 pm train back. We are glad we did since there were so many people at this train station with suitcases and trying to get on, that it was quite a mad house trying to get on the train before it left. It was standing room only.
Tips: I bought my return train ticket at the ticket booth and asked which track the train was going to be on. Ask about the ticket validation machine. There is supposed to a ticket validation machine and if you don't do it and are caught, you could be fined. I missed doing that until we were waiting on the platform but luckily nothing bad happened. When you wait, wait farther down to the left, not near the stairs. When the train arrived and finally stopped, the crowed had to move down quite a ways to actually board since the train stopped farther down the track. Don't wait too long to return, since there can be a lot of cruise ship passengers and tourists who need to board the train. The train was standing room only on the way back at 2:50 pm.

Read moreI have to give this station 1 star review just because it is located right below the tourist trap called âPompeii Tour Organizerâ. As a frequent traveller I found this place extremely scammy. Here are the couple reasons: When you get off the station there is a company right on the second floor of the station that does luggage storage and sells guided tours. - Luggage storage was 6 euros per bag when at the Pompeii park entrance it is for free! Also their ticket entrance is marketed at 21 euros for express ticket when it is 19 euros at the entrance of the park. (See photos) Despite the fact that all the staff at the station knew that this is a huge scam everyone was telling us to buy tickets at the place and store our luggage at the place. - Even the ticket booth vendor told us to goto this place to get Pompeii ticket and luggage storage.
Summarize: If you are going to Pompeii make sure you goto the park entrance first! There you will get cheaper ticket price and also they store your luggage for free! Skip this train station! They even charge you for the restroom when the restroom is completely free when you...
Read moreThe train station has some good facilities for its size but the reality is these are poorly maintained. Thereâs a restaurant, ticket offices for tours, a convenience store, ticket office for trains and local bus, toilets.
But the reality is this station becomes easily crowded with limited seating space requiring people to sit on the platform floor, furthermore the toilets are CASH ONLY at âŹ1.50, realistically this should be a free service as itâs very easy to spend a hour between the local bus to the mountain and the train in part due to poor timing for public transport changing over.
Further on the issue of paying for the toilet Iâve seen people offer cards refused including elderly, and a series of pregnant women, this is a major hygiene and health.
The convenience store seems to have many things available from snacks to sanitary products staffed by an Italian gentleman.
To get to platform 2 for Napoli is confusing as the stairs are small and itâs a far distance, some form of public track crossing could be installed to make the...
