La Piccola Bottega Spiritosa di Piolo&Max — Local services in Trieste

This business was started in 2003 by two local artisans (Piolo and Max) who have a passion for homemade liquors.

Their retail store is now located in the center of the city and easily reachable by public transportation or by foot or by car, if you don’t mind spending a lot of time driving around to look for a parking spot. I love how they played with the name of the store: a “liquido spiritoso” is an alcoholic liquid but the word “spiritoso” is usually used to mean “funny”.

They also offer wines and many type of grappa, and you can always taste before buying. A suggestion for people who are not used to Italian liquors in general: eat something before tasting! This liquors and grappa are “the real thing” and can be strong.

Whenever we go to Trieste, we never come back home to the US without stopping at their place: I always make sure we have plenty of room in our luggage for a few bottles. We have tried many of their liquors and grappa, and I really can’t tell you which one I like better.

If you are a newbie in this field, just ask the staff for help and recommendations: they are very knowledgeable and friendly.

Great place for buying a wide variety of different alcoholic beverages. The owners are extremely friendly and welcoming. Each time we come, there are new creations of alcoholic drinks.
