Mug — Restaurant in Trieste

One of my favorite cafés in Trieste. I love their sweets, especially the red velvet cake and red velvet cupcake. Today, I also happened to try their vegan lunch, and I can say it’s really, really good.

BUT, today we went there between 12:20 and 13:00, and the service was really BAD. One of the staff members kept chitchatting, not paying attention at all. I saw that our order was ready, but she stood there talking for about 2–3 minutes with one of her colleagues right in front of our cake and coffee before serving it. I mean, how can a staff member keep talking in front of a client’s order? Imagine her saliva landing on our food.

Secondly, she didn’t even say “excuse me” or anything when she came to remove our plates. The really bad part was that she stood behind me, noisily throwing all the utensils onto the tray like she was mad or something. She also got my husband’s order wrong, which I can understand since it was a busy hour.

However, I’ve never met such a rude staff member in my life...

Love! The food was super tasty, and the coffee was very good too. I had the vegan brunch option and my bf had the salmon with eggs (available as brunch options on Sundays), both were extremely tasty and satiating. The staff were such lovely ladies, very sweet and caring, the only bad thing was the wait time, however the restaurant was full and a bit short staffed, so I didn’t mind. We came in 20 mins after opening and it was already almost full on a Sunday so I recommend coming early during the weekend, especially if you want to sit outside. The terrace is lovely, situated on a small square. Atmosphere inside was a bit hectic due to there being so many people, and our table ended up being a bit dirty with cake crumbs from the previous customers. Prices are reasonable! A great surprise – thank you MUG!

To the birthday of my girlfriend we travelled to Trieste and I wanted to surprise her with a birthday cake.

In advance I found the MUG bakery at Google and so I wrote an E-Mail, if is possible to order a personalized cake. Elena answered fast and very friendly, so the organization was really simple.

At the birthday we came to the nice outdoor area of Mugs and the waiter brought the extraordinary tasteful cake and two fine Cappuccinos.

The surprise for my girlfriend was perfect and she was very happy (and me too 😉 ). Our friendly waiters boxed the rest of the cake for us and we took it to the hotel and on the next day back to Austria.
