Nice local place, with friendly service and good food.
We had discovered the dish ‘gnocchi di pane’ 2 nights ago, in a different restaurant and felt like having it again and searched for a restaurant that had that on the menu and we found that in ‘Mara’.
The goulash, which came with the gnocchi, was better than in the other restaurant, but we liked the gnocchi itself, more the first time 😉 Because we had a big lunch, we shared the dish, with some vegetables on the side. Those were very overcooked. As dessert we shared a chocolate lava cake, that was very nice.
I missed some music, for some extra atmosphere. And again, like we experienced in the afternoon too, somewhere else, they had a hole in the ground as a toilet, really oldskool, not really convenient for elderly guests.

Read moreThis was such a great find. My girlfriend LOOOOVES frico (typical dish served in Friuli region). Trieste and Friuli have a sort of love hate relationship so I was sure we were never going to find a Frico restaurant in Trieste. Well... I was proved wrong... and thank god for that!!!
This place is incredible. The food is incredible. Mara is incredible.
Mara is the typical Friuliana grandma. She waiters, she cooks and runs the business all by herself. The phrase that she told us is still stuck in my mind: "I just cook like I cook at home!"
The Frico was delicious, Cjarsons (a type of ravioli) filled with frant (typical friulano cheese) and filled with herbs were amazing. The Gnocchi di susine were delicious too!
Go here and order some of EVERYTHING.
This place is really special.

Read moreReally amazing local place in full Trieste style. We arrived at 7pm on a Tuesday in the high season and they were booked solid, but squeezed is in as long as we promised to be done by 9. We tried the unique local ravioli, the house specialty cheese and potatoes, as well as the polenta with cheese and walnuts and roast veggies. All were amazing. Sadly we didn't get a chance to try the goulash. Service was fantastic, the restaurant is cozy and cute, and you immediately feel at home. Our lack of Italian and the staff's modest English didn't get in the way at all, but if you have a phrase book or Google translate, you can use it here. Overall an...
