This is a very nice neighborhood restaurant frequented by locals, e.g. at lunch time you will see people with their work badges taking a lunch break with coworkers and friends; at dinner time you will see locals accidentally running into their friends from a different table. They are also friendly to visitors, and they speak fluent English. The menu is written on the board in Italian, but the waiter/host is very happy to translate and explain the menu. The restaurant is quite small so I highly recommend making a reservation, because most likely they won’t take walk-ins. You can make a reservation by filling out an online form on their website and they usually get back to you very quickly.

The food is very hearty and good. I would say it tastes very comfortable. The portion size is very generous and I would say this restaurant has the highest quality-to-price ratio in Trieste. Unbeatable value. For two people you can get a three-course meal (some dishes to share because the portions are very generous!) for under 50 euros; if you only get a two course dinner you can do it at about 15 euros per person....

Trieste’s hidden gem. The space is small, but ingeniously organized and with a lovely modern, warm and welcoming decor. The food style is rustic yet very elegant, with a varied menu of mostly local dishes, always cooked perfectly and sometimes with a nice modern twist. The menu, written on a wall, changes often and it’s seasonal and rooted in the region’s tradition: a lot of seafood, some interesting meat options and always a good choice for vegetarians. We had the most lovely Moscardini (little squids) in a delicious red sauce with crispy polenta that was to die for and a fantastic grilled calamari warm salad, incredibly fresh, tasty and light. The baccalà mantecato and the “savòr” sardines, 2 super classics, were done perfectly. A special mention for the service: efficient, knowledgeable, unpretentious and overall very nice (we were even offered a free “amaro” at the end of the meal!). The bill is absolutely reasonable.
