very poor staff communication, I got kicked out of a part of the museum for entering “another museum” when the staff member who was supposed to stop me was on their phone and another staff member chased me down and yelled at me in front of other tourists. I wasn’t even told there was another museum and when I asked the staff at the front if there was an alternative entrance I should have entered from I was told there wasn’t, only to be told I did not have access to the “other museum” because I went to the “wrong entrance.” If your staff is not comfortable speaking in English to explain this, even though I was more than happy to translate anything into Italian, then you should really have more signage if you’re staff is either not going to be at their post or on their phones not doing their jobs. But you shouldn’t blame the customer for walking into “the wrong museum” which appears to be just like any other room entrance and yell and embarrass them in front of others.
Edit: I appreciate the response, however, I wasn't even aware that I had access to TWO museums, nor was I greeted when entering the first museum as to what my ticket offered (as it wasn't explained to me well at the reception). I understand walking in was a mistake and I did not pay for the Correr Museum, however, your staff member seeing me through another room, running into the Correr Museum to track me down and yell at me in front of others as if it was intentional, only to realize the staff member keeping watch of the entrance was not in attendance; was unprofessional and rude. Again, you should put up a sign if your staff is not capable of handling this situation in the circumstance someone accidentally walks into the wrong museum, which again, is quite literally...
Read moreWonderful Greco-Roman collection together with some fascinating maps. The coin collection is also impressive and laid out in an understandable way.
The museum would benefit from a sign making it clear that if you enter via the #17 entrance you will be yelled at by a female staff member if you walk through the wrong doorway, as the museum connects to the Museo Correr (we were unaware of this).
Perhaps they assumed that we knew about this connection and were somehow trying to sneak in to the other museum through the unmarked doorway - this would explain the open aggression from some of the staff. My daughter also made the mistake of asking one of the staff if there were toilets nearby and was told to go ask someone else.
As I started writing this review while waiting for my family near the exit one of the staff came and clicked his fingers in my face - to be fair I was standing too close to a glass enclosure but most human beings would say please don’t do that rather than going straight to the click in the face.
Funnily enough he didn’t appreciate it when I disturbed his rest later and clicked my fingers in his face and told him he was rude. He then chased me with my family down the corridor yelling at me in Italian - very entertaining for us and really added to the experience.
Grazie a lei, signor, for having provided an entertaining story for...
Read moreThis review is mostly about finding the NAM entrance (very difficult) … … but what a delight once you’re in there, despite the displays being in a state of reorganisation.
I have created a label locating the entrance, but is it publicly visible?
I asked several official people for guidance, but they were all wrong … perhaps they couldn’t be bothered with my bad Italian language attempts (but there can’t be too many Italian phrases that could be confused with “Museo archaeologica”).
On my way back to the correct location, I told each of them I pointed to where the entrance was.
The numbers for the street address in the portico are too discreet! But, once you know the number (17), what it means, and where to find it on the building (up high in the portico walkway, above the lintel), “you’re away laughing”.
For a map of museum layout use the block diagram of the room numbers … it’s the best you’ll get at the moment.
The portable, plastic-encased description cards are handy, but you might have to hunt for them in randomly-located racks.
The boundaries between the Correr, NAM, and Library are not clear.
I slipped into the Library and found the four amazing globes, and inspiring wall paintings of...
