AMU Plaza Hakata City — Local services in Fukuoka

JR Hakata City is a massive complex with shopping, dining and entertainment facilities. It is also a transportation hub.

The central concourse of the JR Hakata Station is on the ground floor and extends from the front/west side of the complex (the Hakata entrance) to the back/east side (the Chikushi entrance). The train platforms are above street level.

On the Hakata side, it is flanked by the Amu Plaza shopping arcade (B1 - 10/F) and the Hankyu Department Store (B1 - 8/F). Behind the Tokyo Hands store on the left is the Maingu shopping mall (1/F). Deitos (B1 - 2/F), Deitos Annex (1/F - 3/F) and Amu Est (B1 - 1/F) are on the Chikushi side.

Amu Plaza and Amu Est are for those who like to shop for clothing, fashion accessories, housewares and gifts. There are close to 50 restaurants and a cinema multiplex on the top two floors of Amu Plaza. In the Maingu and Deitos shopping zones, there are many counters selling local delicacies, Japanese and Western confectionaries/cakes. There is a noodles street on 2/F of Deitos. Fast food stores can be found in the Deitos Annex.

The Hakata subway station of the Kuko Line is located below the square right in front of the complex and can be accessed from the basement. The bus terminal is just across the street...

There is plenty to see at Amu Plaza from special Japanese nibbles to many floors of Japanese goods and merchandise. One store in particularly that spans a few levels of Amu Plaza is 'Tokyu Hands', where there is an abundance of everything from the quirky and cute to every day practical products. The top floors are dedicated to dining, with many restaurants of differing cuisines for you to choose.

It used to be that very few staff were able to understand English, and directions were all in Japanese. But there has been a big improvement in these areas, with most staff being able to understand English, and translations of most things available in Korean, Chinese and English.

If you would like to get the tax discount, then there is a threshold you must satisfy (over 5,500 yen or something around that) before you can claim this offer. A large shopping mall connected directly to Hakata Station. You can use the Central Exit 中央出口 from the station which will take you straight into this mall. There are heaps of good food choices in here. Restaurants usually opens around 11am. Cafes are opens earlier. Tokyu Hands is located in varies floors in this building. Besides that, there are also plenty other shops from homeware, stationary, bookshop, fashions, jewellery, etc. Also, the Pokemon shop is located on level 8 in here. You can spend a few hours...
