Whoa. Mindblowing Udon.
To be fair, I haven't gone on an udon hunting spree in Tokyo so I can't say if this is the best of the best or just meh to those who have tried a lot of udon in Japan.
Supposedly one of the best ones in Tokyo is Udon Maruka but I did try it and while it was good, it wasn't something that I felt I had to have again.
Makino Udon however has the addictive umami broth and the puffy but chewy udon texture that I really love. So far this is my favorite udon in Japan. Just to warn you up front, the vibe of the entire place felt like a rushed fast food restaurant (which I actually prefer over a higher class dining experience).
The nice thing about is that they give you extra broth on the side (I think it's broth? or was it for the tempura? i have no idea). I poured all of that in regardless. The broth is that good.

Thankfully they give you additional helping of dashi broth which was so good and I finished the whole thing. I recommend getting the burdock root as I see a lot of...
Read morePatronised on a weekday lunch hour, to my surprise, no wait. Ordered burdock udon (¥490) from the machine, got the ticket, and was quickly served to seating by the friendly staff. The staff will ask you how would like your udons to be - soft, medium or hard. I chose medium & the locals seem to choose medium too when I glanced at their tickets. The udons are chewy, thick & definitely a very hearty meal to me. Generous portion & the fried burdock were yummy too. I brought my own chopsticks as they usually use the wooden chopsticks which will be disposed and recycled after single use. More eco-friendly I would expect. Anyway,...
