Nachiya — Local services in Kyoto

Traditionally, perfection is something to be avoided in Japan, but this place gets dangerously close. Every corner, every detail is considered with utmost care. It serves as a perfect example of the Japanese aesthetic, while being comfortable and convenient at the same time. The futons in the traditional Japanese bedroom provide more support than those of most ryokans and the Western bedroom can accommodate even the most sensitive backs. The place is located in a peaceful neighbourhood close to major attractions like the kinkaku-ji. It is farther away from higashiyama but taxis are reasonably priced, or you can take the bus closeby. Additionally, Mamoru-san was an extremely considerate host. He responded quickly to my messages, and took ample time to guide us around the house. Nachiya is the most beautiful, stylish and comfortable home you can find (away from home). The house is spacious and clean and full of traditional Japanese charm. The area is quiet yet full of delicious restaurants and convenient supermarkets and stores if you want to use the lovely kitchen and dining room of Nachiya. It might appear far from city centre, but it is very east to take buses into town. And the local temples are a hidden gem, so much quieter then the touristy ones in town. Most importantly, the host Mamoru-san is kind and thoughtful and answered all our questions. He came to see us for check in and check out and made sure our stay was without problems. Wonderful four nights at Nachiya. Mamoru-san is a kind and helpful host who really cares for his guests. He answered our questions, provided info and recommendations and forwarded our luggage for us upon our departure. It was great to have so much space after small hotel rooms in other locations. Lovely location - walking distance to Kinkaku-ji and just around the corner from Kazariya (which you simply must visit for grilled mochi with white miso sauce) and really good access to buses and metro.
