The ticket office is located near the Moyai statue and a smoker's box (smoking area). There are about 4 counters to help customers. I was talking to a youngish male staff after waiting for about 10 mins. My concern was pretty difficult, because the sunrise/sunset train is pretty complicated to book in the first place and tickets run out fast. Anyway, I had a hard time with the staff as he only wanted to sell me easy to book but expensive private tickets and he was not really interested in listening to my online booking concerns and rectifying my problems. It was getting obvious he had no patience and wanted to get rid of me. I left his booth, and I returned and asked in another counter. Read moreLocating this office, especially with all your luggage, is an absolute nightmare: you’ll follow the information sign only to realize the counter has been abandoned or you’ll see the JR ticket sign only to discover that it’s stairs only, and then you’ll get crushed by the surging crowd going in the opposite direction. I got so frustrated that I ended up asking the cashier at a little restaurant in the food court who gave me directions in Japanese that amounted to, “go up those escalators, then turn left and walk almost in a circle and then take another escalator, then take a right.” It was as confusing as it sounds. We personally queued for 30 minutes to find out that wide pass weren’t sold at windows and had to be purchased through machines, then waited for another 10 minutes to find out that only the machine on the very right sold wide passes.
