I don't write reviews often but had to share my experience for this restaurant which was one of the two bad experiences I had in my Japan Trip.

After arriving late in Shibuya, we were hungry so after walking a bit and exploring we decided to eat first before visiting the famous Shibuya Scramble Crossing. We went down a corner/alleyway and went up an elevator to stumble upon this restaurant.

First, when you arrive they ask if you have a reservation. I think they do this to advertise themselves as popular but there were many opens seats and barely any people. The kitchen was right near the entrance and there were smells and very dirty as other reviewers stated. We were led to our table after a bit of a wait.

Being the first of this type of self grill meat restaurant, we had no idea what to do, their waiters didn't speak much English or answer our questions well so we were forced to take the plunge with limited understanding. There are three courses with varying prices, we got the 6000 yen recommended set per person since it included Wagyu and was hyped up in the menu. You are told you basically order unlimited things from menu for 2 hours. The drinks were self served, you go to a machine to get it. For food, you order on an app through your phone that you sign in so that it is connected to your specific table with a timer for 2 hours, the app sometimes restarts or glitches out forcing a restart and relog. There were language options but some translations were very off. Lots of parts and many confusing translations. You are allowed 5 items per order. Long wait.

Unfortunately, the "Wagyu" advertised was clearly not A4-A5 Wagyu as stated on the menu. That was also the the "best" thing from the menu. It tasted like average meat and it was only ok. In fact most of the meats were near indistinguishable and were frozen. Sometimes it was too chewy to swallow, sometimes it was sticky, sometimes it was rubber with everything in between. Everything else on the menu like chicken and pork are not worth the money and don't taste good at all. There are a few sides like Seaweed which you can order which was ok.

The main issue I had which prompted this review which I wanted to highlight was that the Staff seemed to be Racist or offered different treatment towards Foreigners/Tourists. We were consistently served and attended to last and rarely. The main incident was I ordered Ice Cream for the whole table, and when we tried to order seconds as the ice cream was decent, we were told after a long wait we could only get one per person. Now I don't know what they think Unlimited means, but there was absolutely nothing on the menu or sign or being told that Ice Cream was limited to one per person. I think they saw were were close to the 2 hour count and tried to get us to leave. Upon ordering the ice cream, the waiters with a mix of male and female looked at our order from afar it seemed than looked at us and giggled and pointed at us and spoke Japanese with each other. Eventually, a male server informed us we could only have one ice cream per person. We didn't want to argue so we accepted their explanation even though this seemed made up on the spot. The male server joined his colleagues back near the kitchen and continued to look at us and giggle and point at us with the others thinking we could not understand their language but it was clearly intended to make fun of us for ordering multiple ice creams. I don't get what the big deal is ordering more Ice Cream for desert, is it super expensive, did they run out, more rare than Wagyu or what's the deal? I guess it's funny that Americans like Ice Cream?

I am running out of characters so I will say I do not recommend this restaurant, and to be wary of other positive reviews. Similar to other reviews, I believe this place is a tourist trap. I also see other reviews saying they offered a 5% discount for writing a good review which seems extra scummy to pay for reviews. This negative experience contributed to ruining my Japan/Japanese perception/experience and I will never be...

This is my take. I didn’t enjoy my meal here at all.

I ordered the middle range buffet which is priced at 6000¥ with a time of 100mins. With this price, I can’t deny that I did put my expectations higher. I was thinking I would get good cut of wagyu beef that melts in your mouth and with good flavour even on its own.

But I was greatly deeply disappointed. The beef didn’t even taste good. The cut? Don’t let me start on that. Every plate that you order, they only give you one slice of good nice looking beef and that’s it.

On top of the food disappointment, the moment I walked in to the restaurant I was greeted with dirty looking kitchen where they prepare and cut the meat. Man, not pleasant at all! Plus, the floor is pretty oily too but I understand, it’s a BBQ place.

I rated the service at 4 is only because I guess once you ordered and they serve the food pretty fast. That’s it. Won’t give a 5 because other than that there was pretty much nothing that required their service while having your meal.

Overall, this is where I WILL NOT be having my meal ever again. But then again, this is my encounter and opinion. Take it or try it at...

WORST WAGYU EVER! Please stay away from this restaurant. The Google rating is fake as they do 500yen discount per head if you leave good comments!

What they served were not wagyu at all but they insisted they were. After multiple times of complaints, they finally served sth slightly looked like wagyu. It’s a scam! They even explained the quality of all-you-can-eat wagyu was like that and it ‘s sth I should have expected it. Come on! That’s not a responsible way to say to customers. I have been to many other wagyu buffet restaurants which served par wagyu if not good ones. Meat were all sticking together making it so hard to cook and this is very basic to be honest. Hygiene was terrible as you can see from the photo below, and very smelly kitchen when you walked in.

What’s worse was one of their staff was not even helping at all and asked us what they should do. I don’t come in to propose solutions for you. It’s the horrible dining experience ever and let’s be honest and do not rate high simply because of the 500yen discount.

I have never written any food reviews in my life and you can imagine how bad this restaurant is for me...

Price starts at ¥4500 per person which includes all-you-can-drink soda. Add an additional +¥1500 for all-you-can-drink alcohol to any of the course you choose. English menu is available. We opted for the ¥6000 course to take advantage of the assorted wagyu meat, which always came out tender and so delicious! We definitely made our monies worth pigging out on the assorted black wagyu. Staff is friendly. Atmosphere to be expected in a yakiniku restaurant, so expect to smell like grilled meat afterwards. You can request your grill to be changed out to a new one if it’s too burnt! Food and experience were so good that we just HAD to come here twice on the same trip. Keep in mind that Butcher’s Kitchen is a chain and can be found in other places in Tokyo! Pro tip: Make a reservation. You only need your name and email address (perfect for those who do not have a Japan based number). HOWEVER if you need to cancel or make changes, there is no option to do so online and would require you to call them through their phone number (had to do this to change our reservation time).
