Lilian's Cake House — Local services in Kuala Lumpur

Huge fan of houjicha and was recommended this place by a relative of mine. Saw some reviews complaining about high prices and "bland" cake decoration but I took that with a handful of salt; after all considering the location expenses (Mont Kiara) and having some experience in F&B myself I can say that it's fair pricing for the quality you get. Also, regarding the presentation I personally prefer a cake that speaks for itself with each bite rather than one that looks fancy for the gram but with subpar taste+quality.

Houjicha latte was exceptional (so good I ordered a 2nd right away), 100% recommend. The cake was great too; menu is slightly limited but that's the norm for most places that are newly opened. Met one of the people running the place, Trenton, and was amused by his description of the decor "Inspired by a Korean interpretation of vintage French-American design".

Like the other reviews have mentioned, most of the outlets in the building are frequented by "influencers", so expect a lot of picture- and video-taking. If that's not your thing, stay away. If you're ok with it, definitely...

I came here for brunch and ordered the Pandan Mango Cake, Salmon and Egg Toast, and Paris Tea. I really liked the mango pandan cake, it wasn’t sweet at all, which might be a downside for some people, but it was perfect for me. The cake tasted like something I could serve to the elderly, and they would love it!

The tea was really nice and refreshing as well. However, I wouldn’t recommend their Salmon and Egg Toast. I don’t think food is their specialty since they’re a cake house, so I would only deduct one star from the overall rating. The salmon tasted quite fishy, and the toast was really hard to cut even with the knife they provided. I ended up having diarrhea at night, and this was the only food I had eaten the whole day, so I suspect it might have been due to the salmon.

Had a bad experience with Lilian’s cake house ever since they were only operating on IG. Ordered cake from their website and DM-ed on IG but received no reply. Up till today where they have a physical shop, constantly updating their IG and yet, still no reply when I wish to place cake order via DM. There’s no other way to reach them other than IG direct message but they do not response. Feels odd to me as they gave me a feeling they are afraid to be contacted. It’s likely that they are afraid of complaints? Hence they do not provide alternate ways to contact them. Had my cake delivery arranged to be delivered at 2pm but they deliver it at 11am. What’s the purpose of letting us choose the timing if you are unable to fulfil it? Lucky that there’s someone to attend to the cake due to the many hours advance of delivery time. This shop feels shady to me and I don’t see myself ordering...
