Mercado Michoacán — Local services in Mexico City

This place is “okay” in a pinch (ie you need an ingredient urgently to cook that day). However, I found most stalls’ produce was old, going bad and generally in poor state.

There was only one, run by a tiny woman, that had decent quality produce. But, I didn’t like that she and the other woman who runs this don’t post prices and tend to “size you up” to see how much they want to charge (basically, if they think you’re a foreigner or you’ve got money, they increase the price…not the best way to do business).

When I was willing to walk away because the price was far higher vs. what others were charging, she lowered the price willingly… clearly they were just trying to charge me more because of what? The way I was dressed? The type of wallet I had? I swear they stare at everything…This type of treatment is disheartening. I...

A bit expensive for what it is (i could easily find the same food for a lot less at another mercadito) but i feel its the location, inflation?? idk and idc; food was good, staff were so nice except for a lady in one of the stands who only treats americans and europeans with respect, I wish i had gotten her name or something, (i mean, we're all paying customers !!) she was really rude for no reason and took way longer on our orders than the rest even though we were right in front of hers. I dont mean to come off entitled, the guy making the juices and smoothies definitely took away that sour taste she left us, he was so accommodating, and just for that i'd go back in a heartbeat. Breakfasts are good, fruits and veggies are always fresh, my fave stand is the tacos de guisado :)) Eat, shop, drink...

What a gem of a market in such a pretentious neighborhood! lol. Olivia, the woman at the seafood counter is so lovely. I’ve had a very enjoyable convo with her while she made me fresh ceviche to go and even offered me some of what she had just made to munch on while I waited.

I bought lots of veggies & fruit from the man right across from her. I forgot his name. He was so nice & honest, he even wrote all the prices out for me to see before I paid. That was a 1st in Condesa and I was very grateful for that. The total was lower than I expected and I would’ve paid him more for the great service.
