Horrible service + food poisoning!
This was the first place I tried on my inaugural trip to CDMX on the evening of Oct 18th. The server was not only difficult to communicate with but he argued with me about my selections and then repeatedly told me to get the “new York strip”, as if I travel to Mexico City to try something I could get back in the US.
Then after bringing my incorrect order, they entire plate was smothered in cheese?? At this point, I wanted to leave but told myself that I was the problem and to be open minded. People, trust your instincts, ALWAYS. Two of the tacos were exactly the same and both not what i ordered. The only taco that was correct (kinda) was the Al Pastor and even that was smother in cheese..
after forcing myself to eat a third of this unfortunate excuse for a meal, I respectfully asked for the check. Somehow a bottle beer, a signature drink and three tacos cost $700 of which the server decided for himself how much I was going to tip. I understand gratuity but for someone eating alone? This place was not busy in fact one table over the manager was interviewing someone if that gives you an idea of just how slow things were. I had his tip in cash and went to pay with my card, again, I was argued with and had salsa spilled on my sweater. The whole experience was humiliating and an absolute nightmare.
To top it off, I returned to my Airbnb and went straight to bed, eager to forget this mess only to awaken a hour or so later to me CHOKING on my own vomit. I’ll spare you the details but say this, it’s Friday now and I’m still paying for that meal of you catch my drift. I will never forget this, this place RUIN this trip for me as I was now able to eat anything else this entire trip without immediately getting sick. Shame on you Maestro Taqueria, I hope this is not what the Maestro teaches because does not deserve a dime as far as...
Read moreI say this without any exaggeration at all, this was the worst dining experience and food I have ever had in my entire existence.
Where to begin? They started with a free little beer, which was where it started to go downhill. In hindsight, a gimmick like that should’ve been a big red flag.
We get in and seated, there were 6 of us. We were told about the specials including table side guacamole. We placed our appetizer orders and when asked for Guac they said they were out lol …good start.
We ordered some queso that was incredibly bland and then placed our food orders. My friends ordered 3 and 4 tacos each and weren’t warned that these tacos were incredibly huge and more like 10-12 tacos instead.
When our first friends order came out and they saw the size, they were quite annoyed. This was the first hint of price gouging we experienced.
That first friend who got his tacos, got one taco and then 20 mins later got his second. Meanwhile no one else has anything at this point. Then another 15 mins later, me and my friends food comes out and it smelled awful.
I ate one taco( smaller ones for me) and called it. Then 15 mins later our other two friends who accidentally got the giant tacos got their food.
My friend, whose bachelor party it was, and this was the final meal of the trip, took two bites before calling it quits.
For barely any food, and only 1 alcoholic beverage among 6 guys, the total of $170 USD was laughable.
Fast forward to today and I’m being plagued by Montezuma’s.
Really should have checked the most recent reviews, because despite having over 2,000 and a 4.5, that’s super misleading based on those aforementioned reviews.
Such an awful experience. You couldn’t pay...
Read moreWe were on the hunt for a spot with excellent drinks and even better tacos in Colonia Condesa, and after browsing the stellar reviews on Google Maps, we decided to give Maestro Taquero a try. It absolutely did not disappoint!
From the moment we walked in, we knew we were in for a treat. We started with the "puerco pulpo," and it was nothing short of amazing – perfectly crunchy on the outside, yet incredibly tender and meaty. We then moved on to several tacos, including the picanha and, of course, the pastor. I can honestly say, this was hands down the best pastor I have ever tasted!
The drinks were equally impressive, with a fantastic selection of cocktails and beers to choose from. The ambiance of the place is also a huge plus; it boasts several floors with plenty of space, making it comfortable and lively. Throughout the evening, various singers graced the floors, offering beautiful songs for a small tip, adding a wonderful local touch. The highlight of our dinner, however, was when a mariachi band spontaneously showed up – it was an absolutely amazing and unforgettable experience!
I highly, highly recommend Maestro Taquero for anyone looking for an authentic, delicious, and entertaining dining experience in Mexico City. We can't...
