Read moreNOTE: This review is not for the Mall itself, but rather for the terrible parking system and infrastructure around the shopping center.
I drove to the Mall on Dec 22nd to “pop into” the Jumbo, but when I approached the mall from the West side (tram hospital stop) there was total gridlock. No cars were moving. It took me 45 minutes just to go 200 meters around the block to the parking garage entrance near Jumbo/MediaMarkt where a traffic director stood at the blocked entrance. Hundreds of cars drove out of the garage, but none were allowed to enter.
I asked the disinterested man why we were not allowed to drive in. “It’s full,” he said. “Follow the parking route.”
“But there are hundreds of cars coming out and there are none going in—this is the only entrance in or out to this garage—that doesn’t make any sense,” I answered.
The man shrugged and replied, “You should have gotten here earlier.” Note: I arrived at the mall at 13:00 hours. Gee, thanks, mister.
Another 25 minutes later, I finally reached the Albert Heijn parking lot entrance on the Eastern side. It, too, was blocked off! By this time, tensions were high and drivers were getting mad, honking their horns constantly. The traffic coming through the tunnels was backed up all the way back to the A4 freeway, and nerves were raw.
I finally got back around to the parking lot entrance on the West side, which turned out to be the only lot that allowed cars to drive in. By the time I finally got inside and had found a spot, I had been driving around for two full hours. Two hours of my life I will never get back again.
The city of Leidschendam and the project planners really screwed this one up. I have never been to this mall without facing a parking mess. It needs to be addressed quickly because so many people just can’t deal with it. I feel sorry for the people who live in the immediate vicinity of the mall, hearing the honking horns of frustration and...
Read moreDon't come here on a rainy day or weekend or holiday by car. Complete traffic chaos since the gemeente Leidschedam could not force the developer to manage this.
Go to city center or elsewhere because it's just the same crappy clothes stores like anywhere else.
Funny how there's not a single parking garage in Netherlands (even this brand spanking new one) that has a good design for cars above the size of a Mini or Fiat. There are buttons per elevator vs all which is super bizarre. Bad signage to elevators far away from the escalators, and the feeling of claustrophobia. The anchor stores like Albert Heijn and Action (so poor quality options) plus a food court with extremely limited, badly designed seating.
[Edit] To the "owner". This traffic solution is not acceptable. There were NO traffic controllers on weekends when it is typically always very busy. The neighborhoods around the area are constantly complaining about the traffic situation and yet nothing is done. You can't tell residents to just go out on non busy days. It's ridiculous. Nobody from the gemeente is doing anything about this. I have seen several traffic incidents at the traffic lights in the tunnels. The traffic flow in that area is a complete disaster. Even if you take the tram, the intersections are blocked by cars that they cannot get through.
The traffic situation is bad for EVERYONE. It's not a question about going at certain times. I avoid the Mall as much as possible or take a bike if absolutely necessary to go. Remember there is a hospital across from there and other reasons to go into that area. No wonder Antonioushoeve removed their emergency services because it's such a disaster to reach it in...
