Paperfish — Local services in South Island

The older lady who was training the younger female staff member today had really poor customer service and was quite rude. I walked in said hello and waited to be acknowledged by her, even just a "hi be with you in a sec" but she completely ignored me and kept on talking to the other staff member, who made eye contact, smiled and then clearly looked uncomfortable as I was kept standing there waiting for the older women to finish what she was saying so the younger staff member (who was obviously under her direction) could say hello. It was really awkward and unnecessary and showed a lack of common courtesy (as it was quite a while and she would finish making one point and start another). She also made an accusatory comment at myself after a mistake was made on the till that had nothing to do with me. Whoever that individual is, assuming an owner or a manager, you could learn some basic manners. Maybe off your younger staff, who had the decency to try and acknowledge that I was...

I have never left a bad review before but these people would be most deserving of one.

I cant believe these people are still in business with the way they treat customers. I’ve had 2 too many experiences with these people the first I ordered over the phone and when I collected our food the hot dog was in a bag of tomato sauce entirely coated and slimy - we weren’t told it would be in sauce and my daughter and not sure which child would want to eat that so I took it back in, explained and asked nicely for another one and the owner was extremely rude just glanced at me and said it says on the menu but I made a phone order so was entirely un aware.

I’ve just rang up again thinking I’ll give them another shot as there are some good reviews only to try and order a chicken burger without dairy to over hear the owner say “it has Mayo in it and we’re not changing it because that’s how it comes” one simple change to gain another customer...

First time in Picton (from North) and wanted good ole Fish and Chips. Came across this place. Nice and simple shop, seems to be where locals come. Owners were pleasant Kiwi couple. But, Food was very expensive (compared to home). Ordered the Tarakihi, was $10! Half scoop chips cost $5, nuggets $6.60 , hot dog $3.50 and sweet corn bites $1.60 for 2, and "4 buck burger". Believe we were incorrectly charged the credit card surcharge fee when I used a normal eftpos. So make sure you don't get stung for that.

Very disappointed in Tarakihi, wasn't fresh. Sweetcorn bites way too small which is why i think they gave us couple extra. Nuggets and hot dogs also lack lustre. Everything lightly salted so you would need add to your taste.

Best thing was the 4 buck burger. Would have one of those again.

If quality fish and chips at right price is what you're after, I'd try somewhere else. I'f burgers is your thing then definitely...
