We spent the night in Waikawa and in the morning were in search of an excellent coffee. We could not find any reviews directing us to good coffee in Picton, but having looked through the window and seen the coffee machine, we thought the Bakehouse Cafe might be our place. And it was! The coffee was superb, we enjoyed one each while there, and then another to take away. We also each had a fresh warm egg and bacon breakfast muffin, which turned out to be excellent, top quality and super tasty. The place is very well run, friendly and with nice energy and a wide clientele. They present a wonderful range of fresh and attractively priced food -- quality of all seems to be very good. The glass case full of savoury pies looks impressive, as do all the nice-looking cakes in...
Read moreMy husband and I are digital nomads, and after we got off the ferry at 6:00am, we needed somewhere to work. What makes it worse at the BC is the Lilliputian Portions! Even the salad that accompanied the bacon and eggs (nothing extraordinary here) was just a mere mouthful - in fact you could see more plate than food. This is a far cry from the breakfasts served elsewhere and left us still feeling ravenous afterwards.
The cooking and the taste of the food was nothing out of the ordinary, it's just basic breakfast tucker cooked in a basic way: 3 small, grilled bacon slices and 2 small, fried eggs! $14, with no...
