When we saw this it had a 3.5 star rating - which is very super unfair to a great fish and chip shop. We took the chance on the rating, being hungry and getting grumpy and are so pleased that we did. Walking in we received a nice sunny greeting from what appeared to be the lady owner, and things went well from there. The fries were more like wedges, lovely big home-made chunks of crunchy goodness. Cooked golden brown in nice fresh oil they were a joy to eat - would go really great with a bit of sour cream, vinegar or just by themselves. We took a hunk of elephant fish (Hoki and other options are also available) and it was nice and thick with crispy batter. Cooked through to the middle with a lovely firm and flaky consistency it completed our meal perfectly. Preferred place in rangiora to get fish and chips as the chips are nice and crunchy but not oily. The fish is lovely as well not to oily but all best to enjoy nice and hot. The spring rolls are also nice. The chips we get are show string or normal with chicken salt which prove a hit with the kids. Staff are very kind and friendly. Best to order on the phone then go for pick up as very busy sometimes. Not many seating options inside (5 seats available) which usually fill up fast. DON'T BOTHER!! Got told 15 min wait for our order .... 49 minutes later we got it. (Lots of other customers complaining about the time it took too - one man had been waiting over an hour!) Took our fish n chips to the beach to find half our order was missing - called them straight away for the lady owner to tell me I was wrong, none of our order was missing, to check the order (obviously had, as we'd opened the order!!!!) and tell me that we've ordered wrong, refused to give a refund.
