Machupicchu is perhaps the most popular attraction in Peru. It is the reason why most tourists visit Peru. You should consider whether it is worth the total expense of the trip, because Peru is a disappointment otherwise. It's as if all the world's construction rubble and waste has been dumped in Peru. The country is even inferior to India. It's pathetic. But if you're travelling here, Machupicchu is worth a visit. For one thing, it's just here, for another, it's a relatively tidy city, and for another, it's a really special man-made city. We stayed in Cuzco. The morning started with a 2 hour bus ride until the passenger reached the border of the area. A further 2 hour panoramic train ride followed. On the train as on the planes you can buy supplies and souvenirs. However, you will not feel like using the toilet. After another 30 minutes bus ride from the terminus, you arrive at the entrance to Machupicchu. From here, you start climbing an adventurous trail of about 2-3 km with a 320 m difference in elevation. Be prepared for frequent rain and crowds!
