I visited Barcelona recently and, wandering through the warren of narrow streets in and around the cityâs Gothic quarter, I discovered OZZ Barcelona. A clothing boutique. For women, mostly, by the looks of it.
In case youâre wondering, Iâll tell you. Iâm a straight man. And I am no slave to fashion. But I saw this place, and I froze in awe of the sophistication with which the shop and everything in it was designed. Everything about it was sublime.
The clothes were beautifully-made and highly imaginative without being ridiculous. Admirable without being too hungry for attention. The architectureâwhite brick, oaken beams and copper floorâmade it difficult to tell if the clothes had been designed for the space, or the space for the clothes. But it was clear that they were meant to work together. Somebody thought about this!
Even the storeâs logo and the black business card with its subtle, almost imperceptible cross-hatching told me that the owner of this joint really knew their stuff, design-wise. They cared deeply. And infused their brand into every square centimeter of the place.
Even in a city like Barcelona, where style is in evidence everywhere, OZZ stood out. Whoever put this place...
Read moreI was looking for some interesting local designer pieces for women and tried a number of shops in the La Ribera-Born neighborhood, having googled and yelped for suggestions prior to wandering around. But nothing I saw seemed that special until I happened upon Ozz Barcelona, which carries many local designers w very unique and creative styles. The selection is well curated and grouped by designer w a brief background displayed on each designer.
Some of the pieces had a bit of a 'project runway" feel where different colorways or 'sister' variants in a collection had different construction and fit from each other as if the designer was still experimenting w the design and construction during production. But all part of the fun w emerging designers!
The shop sales woman was extremely helpful!, professional and kind. (Aplologies, I've forgotten your name.) Prices mostly ranged from 50-300 euros, w some grander pieces 400-600+. I tried on many things and ended up w 3 wonderful pieces!
Definitely...
Read moreJose was very gracious to us from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. My wife tried on a number of pieces while I sat and watched, adding my thoughts and opinions. Jose explained about the concept of the store utilizing smaller designers but brilliant. I agree, some very nice designs with a nice blend of colors and textures. He explained the drape and wear of each piece and who made it. Even for me it was a wonderful experience. It is so nice to go into an atelier/boutique style shop to get the interesting, unique pieces, not the cookie cutter styles, and to be attentively looked after by the owner. Yes, the pieces are a little more expensive but I expect that from the limited edition pieces coming from independent designers. Jose was accommodating, helpful, thoughtful but not overbearing. Overall a fabulous experience and yes, my wife did come away with a...
