Salon by Blue — Local services in Chiang Mai Province

I was eager to try Blues based off her reviews but the service was atrocious. Wasn’t going to write a bad review because I thought maybe my experience was a one-off, but I spoke to other women who also had similar experiences of our hair being ruined and not at all what we asked for at Blue’s. I was going to ask her for a refund but other customers I talked to have said she refuses to refund for any of her services.

I went in asking for caramel balayage, showed her this photo attached, and she made it seem super easy and no issue. I have thick healthy hair and don’t use products or heat to cause damage. I was at the salon for 4.5 hours, I was assured she wouldn’t lift my hair beyond a caramel tone, and would have thinly and evenly blended balayage. She never showed me options for the toning shades, she just said “yes I will make it this color.” My balayage came out a variety of shades, most notably ash white/blonde, and my face framing “money pieces” were much thicker than we discussed. I was mortified. It looked horrible, I have a few big events coming up and there’s no way I can be seen like this, I look like I was aged 15 years. I told her it is much lighter than I asked and the framing is much bigger and she said “yes, I made money pieces bright and thicker so you can see them more. It looks good! And you see more if your hair is pulled up.” Yes, lots of these highlights were underneath my top layer of hair (that’s not balayage), uneven and patchy, and the pieces visible from the front were so noticeable and white, this is nothing like what I asked for and showed her. I asked her to slightly even out my layers and she chopped a lot of hair off unevenly. She didn’t seem to care that I was unhappy or that it looks nothing like the reference photo. I was shocked and cried outside her shop, this looked like a joke.

I had to get it fixed at another salon New York Nimman and they were also disgusted by my hair and the multiple colors of patchy highlights throughout. They told me to demand a refund for her service. Highly recommend New York Nimman, worth the money if you want your hair done correctly, they fixed all the damage she did to bring me back to brunette hair. So in total because I had to repair what Blue did, I spent 8k (3k at Blue, 5k at NYC) baht just to get my original hair again....

I asked for sun-kissed highlights around my face and crown (to accentuate my natural ones and add to those), and instead they did my whole head. I asked for blonde highlights, and instead they dyed it a brassy unnatural shade of brown (which also wiped out any trace of natural highlights that I had in the process). I asked for a cut to keep the length to about my armpit with some long layers (I even showed them multiple photos), and they chopped it to just below my shoulders. Honestly, I have absolutely no idea what got lost in translation, or what I said wrong, so I’m hoping that’s what happened and that it was all just a big misunderstanding, because it seems like most folks rave about this place and have a great experience and don’t run into any of these issues... but unfortunately, I can’t recommend going here unless you’ve been before, or you’re really confident you’ll be understood so that you get...

I've been travelling for three months and was in desperate need for a cut and colour. My plan was to stop at another salon (which I had been to before) but found that their prices have gone through the roof (25% more than my Aveda salon in Canada) so I was in search of another place and Salon by Blue came highly recommended.

She was wonderful and very accommodating. She was able to get me in the next day.

The process for highlights is a bit different than I have had in the past. The highlights are done then toned and washed out. After that is done, the roots are touched up. It takes a bit longer but the result was worth it.

Blue then completed the service with a cut and style. I absolutely loved it and it was less than half the price of what I would have paid in Canada!

Blue is an excellent colourist and really knows her stuff. I would highly recommend her and will definitely go back next...
