No reservation restuarant. Very popular. They don't take reservations. Just have to queue and wait. Prices are very reasonable for their dishes. We tried to come here on 2 separate occasions. First time was on Monday evening. We arrived at 7pm and saw a massive queue outside the restuarant. Very chaotic. No idea how the queuing system worked as there was no staff at the front door. Eventually we worked out we had to add our name onto a wait list. There was 25 groups ahead of us. We didn't stay. A chaotic mess. No one knew how the queuing system works. People joining after us even asked if we were just standing in the queue. We had to explain to them that there was a wait list. We returned the next day Tuesday for lunch as we really wanted to know what the restuarant hype was about. So we returned next day Tuesday for lunch at 10.45am for 11am open. We were 3rd in line. Restuarant door was shut so we just waited. Maybe the large weekend crowds had left Chiang Mai, as the queue was smaller. At 11am they opened the door and everyone went in to grab a table. Once seated we were given a menu. Initially we were sat in the middle of the restuarant, which is a really bad table as the wooden boards on the floor are bouncy so everytime anyone walked by, the ground would shake. So we moved table away from the middle. We ordered 5 dishes for the 2 of us which was more than anyone else so we clearly over ordered. We had their signature starter platter for THB290 which is what everyone seemed to order. We also ordered a curry soup, deep fried lotus root, deep fried egg omelete, spicy soup noodles. Dishes were around THB100 each. Food was unique as we never tried Northern Thai food before. We spent THB670 for the 2 of us. We were inside the restuarant just over 1 hour. This seemed to be the typical seating time for lunch as most people left around 1 hour. When we left just after 12pm, there was a queue of people waiting outside....
Read moreVery disappointed in this Michelin guide restaurant, and wonder how they got this Michelin guide.
Today, me and my brother is going to try this Michelin guide restaurant. After a long queue waiting for a seat. We are really excited to try on this famous Michelin guide restaurant. We had ordered the fried rice, stir fried mixed vege, grill pork with northern herbs, curry with garlic, omelettes with pork and deep fried pork.
In the half way of eating, we found a small piece of broken glass in the grill pork with northern herbs. And we raised up this issue with the staff, to let them know this issue. They took the plate with them and told us they will waived off the dishes for us. At this stage, I feel just abit disappointed to them, as a famous Michelin guide restaurant, this should not be happen. However, I had been working in a restaurant during my uni life, I do understand sometimes things happen.
After a minute we start continuing our meal, we found another pieces of broken glass in their fried rice. At this moment, we are not just disappointed, and also mad. We called up the waiter again, and they try to take our dishes with them again, but we refuse, and checking with their manager. They offered us to changing all dishes for us. But how can they ensure us to have dishes without broken glass again. We end up refused to their offer, and take a photo of the dishes and leave.
I’m very disappointing to this case. It is lucky for us to spot out this broken glass. What if we didn’t found it and have it in our stomach ? Or we get hurt while biting ? Is will...
Read moreHuen Muan Jai (เฮือนมาวนใจ๋) offers authentic Northern Thai food. Each dish infused with thai culinary tradition making dining here extra special for me. I definitely recommend anyone who is looking for authentic Northern Thai food to visit Huen Muan Jai.
Huen Muan Jai has been featured in the Chiang Mai Michelin for 5 consecutive year, and I must say that the food here reminded me of the reason I love culinary. Us, party of 5 ordered food totalling 1,685 baht from drinks to mains and desserts. If dining here I recommend that you order Jin Some Mhuk (จิ้นส้มหมก), Khua Chiang Daa (คั่วเชียงดา) and Tam Ma Khua (ตำมะเขือ). Pair it with sticky rice and you have yourself a meal. Other dishes were also great and if you are adventurous I definitely recommend you try something new. The one dish I do say to not order is the Nho Tord (หน่อทอด) which is this stuffed bamboo dish. It was hard to eat and is mostly flour. Other than this one the drinks and dessert - we had eté ice-cream - were also nice.
The restaurant is located deep in the streets of Chiang Mai. The restaurant operates in a historic wooden Thai house which enhanced our dining experience. It's a very nice place to go both for locals and tourists. Just be ware that they tend to get quite busy and thus parking may be abit hard if their designated parking is full. The service cancelled sometimes be slow. Overall a 4 stars for this restaurant. The food was great but could be better as well as there service as well. However a good experience and a very nice atmosphere to dine and...
