Update Downgrading I this to one star because my boyfriend and I both got food poisoning from the lunch and because of the rude Whatsapp messages from the tour provider telling me that I'm wrong and it's my fault for not having a 5 star experience. I have attached the very lengthy Whatsapp messages the tour provider sent me along with his long and rude reply here. There are so many tour providers in Goreme, if you don't want to be harassed on Whatsapp, I would advise picking another one.
We took the green tour and the saving grace was our guide Cemil, he was really knowledgeable and he was warm and friendly. But we feel it was overpriced for what we got. We paid about £110 per person through getyourguide and then had to pay another £50 in cash on the day to actually visit the museums and monastery on the tour.
-the listing on getyourguide is misleading because the title says it includes lunch and entrance tickets but you have to select the most expensive option to get the entrance tickets, so we had to pay extra on the day to get into the underground city and the monastery. If you were to buy the tickets when you get there you would hold up the whole tour so it seems pointless to me to list these as separate options, I think they're doing this to lower their listed price on getyourguide to get more customers. Feels a bit scammy! -there is no water or drinks included (even though lunch was provided) -the lunch wasn't good. -the 'luxury vehicle' was faaaaar from luxury, perhaps it was the rude guy man spreading beside me but the mini bus felt cramped and uncomfortable. -there are not one but two stops on the tour that are tourist trap shops. One at the start selling overpriced jewellery, and one at the very end of the day selling sweets and oils, when everyone is exhausted and wants to go home.
Overall not a bad experience, Cemil was really great, but they could do with streamlining their getyourguide listing and ditching the...
Read moreWith so many travel agents in Cappadocia, it was hard for us to narrow it down to one. However, when we walked into the Highline office and started talking with the owner, a very affable man named Mehmet with excellent English, we got the immediate sense that he was an honest and fair fellow, and so we decided to go with him.
Since we had already booked our balloon tour before flying to Turkey, we booked two other tours through Mehmet’s agency: an ATV sunset riding tour around the Cappadocia area, and a full day tour around Goreme National Park with a private guide that we booked for the following day. With the park tour, it is very easy to set up what you want to see and don’t want to see, which is why we went with the private guide option. It was a bit more expensive than the group tour option, but worth it to us.
The ATV tour was a lot of fun and we saw some great scenery. Yes, it was dusty at times, but that’s to be expected when you ride around the desert. And it was definitely worth it for the amazing views we had and sites we saw.
The next day, our driver Yusuf and our private guide Najib arrived at our hotel in the morning, and off we went. We saw some truly spectacular sites that day, including the amazing underground city at Kaymakli, the incredible ‘fairy chimneys’ of Goreme and the breathtaking ‘open air museum’ that was once the home of various monks and nuns who had lived there in ancient times. Najib is an extremely knowledgeable and friendly man, also with excellent English, and he articulated very well all the important geological and historical facts about this remarkable region.
All in all, these tours were both fascinating and memorable. If you are visiting Cappadocia and are looking for a good travel agent, we think you’d be hard pressed to find a better one than Mehmet and his...
Read moreHighly recommended. Mehmet and his crew speak English and the cars are air conditioned (not always the case with other agencies). Price is fair on each activity, and he looks out for you on unforeseen circumstances.
In my case I booked the Turkish night show and dinner with Mehmet @Highline Travel which was to start at 830pm that evening. But at 8pm, my partner and I were still on a horse coming down from a hill! ( delayed end time on horse riding activity with another vendor). Mehmet coordinated with our horseriding vendor to pick us up at the 1st landmark right below the hill, and headed directly to the restaurant/ performance house. We arrived exactly at 8:32pm, just in time to settle in for the show and dinner.
Subsequently, we asked Mehmet to arrange for our day tours, Hammam massage and transport to the airport on our departure day from Cappadocia to Istanbul. He also helped us arrange for a private driver and guide in Istanbul for the rest of our vacation, which really helped us enjoy our sightseeing stress-free from the notoriously tough ride hailing scene/ taxi drivers in Istanbul (who can inflate prices by 3x-5x or more)
I highly recommend Mehmet for your tours in Cappadocia, to enjoy with a...
