Grove Lane Pizza & Fish Bar — Local services in Birmingham

I’m writing to express my disappointment with the meal my partner ordered from your establishment today, 12th June 2025, around 12:50–1:10 PM. The order included fish, chicken and chips, and salad. Unfortunately, the quality of the food was far below acceptable standards.

The chips were not fresh and had a hard, rubbery texture — some sharp enough to feel uncomfortable on the gums. The fish looked dull and unappetising, with batter that was tough on the outside and soggy with oil on the inside. It was evident that the food was not freshly prepared, and we strongly suspect it may have been old or reheated items that should never have been served.

This experience feels like a blatant disregard for customer satisfaction and quality. It seemed as though bad food was sold simply to avoid waste and maximise profit, which is unacceptable.

What adds to the disappointment is that I personally recommended this chip shop based on its previous reputation when it was owned by the Cypriot lady — back then, it was a solid 10/10, especially in the Handsworth area. It was a straightforward chip shop, and the quality was consistently high. Since the rebranding into a pizza and fish bar under new management, the standards have clearly dropped. It’s disheartening to see that there seems to be little effort to uphold the legacy or quality of the previous ownership, and it appears cost-cutting has taken priority over quality.

Unfortunately, we won’t be returning, and we will be sharing our experience through word of mouth. I hope this feedback is taken seriously, not only as a reflection of one poor experience but as a warning of the potential impact on your reputation if such...

Edit: Such an unfortunate case. I've had to edit a five star review down to one. New ownership seem ok I guess, but they simply fail to understand the level of good will Sez and her partner fostered over the decades. Sez will greet you with a smile no matter how hard the graft was that given day, Kelly will do your nut in and you'll wall away with a smile. This atmosphere has all but gone in the few months since the takeover.

The new pensioner bird they've got in is miserable and literally cannot hear the orders you place. She will try and get arsey when you ask where the rest of the stuff you asked for is. I walked out with my full order and could see her and the gaffer going back and forth excusing each other's...

My first time ordering since new owners have taken up the Business and 100% they’ve lived up to the legacy left by the previous owners.

Ordered Small Tandoori Chicken Pizza and Large Fish and Chips - Food was 10/10 🌟

Tandoori Chicken pizza was beautifully cooked and had good volume of toppings and cheese tasted amazing.

Fish and Chips was also very nice especially the first cooked well and chips were really good cooked to perfection sauces on top really made it unforgettable. 🌟
